I PURCHASED THIS TRACTOR USED. IT WAS IN 4X4 AND IT WORKS. TRIED TO GO TO 4X2 BUT LEVER WOULD NOT COME OUT. SPRAY WITH WD40 AND TRIED WIGGING BACK AND FORTH BUT LEVER DOES NOT MOVE AT ALL. TRIED WITH TRACTOR RUNNING, STOPPED, ON, OFF AND ON THE RUN. ANY IDEAS? DID NOT WANT TO PUT A WRENCH ON IT. MY LUCK IS ALWAYS BAD WHEN I DO THINGS LIKE THAT.:confused2:

When my BX does this I just roll the tractor back and forth a little, keeping a little pressure on the 4 X lever, and it usually pops in fine.

B7100 I had everynow and than 4x4 would stick..I found level ground, clutch press in ,setting in set move your body side to side when doing so push/pull on lever.

With my BX, when it's tough to get it out of 4wd, I start forward slowly, back off and normally the lever will "work with me" at that point...Good luck.

Don't know whether 7100 works same way, but my old 6000 had a spring-loaded ball and detent plate to keep shift lever in place when in or out of 4WD. Over the years, either the ball or plate got worn/rough...making shifting difficult...

How about jacking the front clear of the ground to relieve built up tension by turning the wheels by hand? Should work!
If equipped with FEL, use it to lift the front!

Sometimes my 7100 does this on hard ground because the front drive binds or something. Other times it will move some but not all the way to the other position. What works here is, with the tractor running, shift the transmission into neutral and then let the clutch out to 'spin' the gears and help them align (or whatever it does). Might take more than once. Then it will slip into the other position.

Try turning the wheel back and forth while moving the lever.

The main thing is not to force the lever. My B2100 seems to respond well to moving the HST pedal back and forth a little, from forward to reverse.

I'd keep trying the penetrating spray thing. If this lever hasn't been "exercised" in a while, I'm guessing its froze up and not stuck due to tension or pressure.
