I have a model B7100 manual transmission. The steering wheel will rotate 1.5 turns. The slack adjuster has been adjusted. What needs to be done to repair this problem?
The stearing wheel does turn 1.5 turns but there is a popping noise in the gearbox. The wheels do eventually respond and turn but, I am having to use the breaks to turn.
If there is a popping sound from the gearbox there are some bearings and seals need replacing and perhaps a few more items as well. The steering gear boxes seem to take a pretty good beating on the B7100 model.
Easiest to do it sooner than later as you may get caught with no steering.
Did remove the steering column and found bearings and retainer in bottom of gearbox needed to be replaced, will be replacing the bearings etc.....thanks for the help, it's appreciated.
I went to another site for the work shop manual and found them to be pricey. Hoping I can find a site like alldatadiy.com for tractors, that would be too easy to find one. Pictures are always helpful when you are in unfamiliar territory.
Tore the steering box apart. Found the bearing at the bottom of the shaft had come apart. Guess I am going to buy a bearing. Do you know where the block that runs up and down shaft goes when I put it back together? Does it go at the bottom end or middle or what?
Easiest thing to do is to turn the tires all the way in one direction. Watch the drag link and figure out if the block needs to be at the top or the bottom. I have found it a little tricky to get the shaft in the lower bearing so be careful when you put it back together.
