I have found a 1980 b7100 in the seattle area for $6500 from private party, this is a stick shift model 4 wheel drive with a Kubota loader and has 1975 hours. The tractor looks like it just came off the showroom floor and runs great. It has black smoke when you first start it up, but after a few seconds no smoke, this maybe normal for a diesel? Is the price to high? It comes with no other implements. Thanks for your advice.

These are very popular at the auctions {usually with a mower}, going mostly between $1000-1500… At only 13 PTO HP, other than for mowing duties, the unit is extremely “underpowered” to do much more… on dealer lots they command about $2000-2500. mostly with a 30 day warranty…

Consider this equal to a 1980’s used car with about 330,000 miles on it stored in a garage between drives…

If you’re serious about spending $6500, I’d strongly consider upping it a few thousand dollars more for a brand new machine, more usable/doable horsepower, with a two year factory warranty…

Compare.
My dealer has a B7100DT,1978,2144hrs,FEL,Asking $6,595.oo,very well keep,and w/in a week already has a hold on it.
I think the price w/out the FEL tad high, and if you are thinking of installing a FEL plus rear ballast and tire chains etc..than you would almost be in the range of a new B7500 w/power streeing.

John, he says it has a FEL that I don't think you took into consideration. And of course if it's been stored inside and properly cared for, it's probably worth a good bit more than what the ones sell for at auction. Admittedly, I don't know what they're worth, but as I've mentioned before, the dealer gave me $8k two years ago for my '95 B7100 with nearly 500 hours on it, and that was at a time when he already had two B7100s sitting on the lot. I don't know what he got for any of them, but I noticed a week or so later that he didn't have any left on the lot.

John,
Reading about the part of the going rate prices at a auction for so low,/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.giffor I seen some model that leak..beat to death etc.. and the prices they payed../w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
Could the different locations make a differents, for the B7100DT in fair shape goes about $3,000 to $3,500 w/no attachments,w/a attachment add on least $1,000.00.
B7100HST w/FEL in good shape very hard to find second hand in these parts, and if you do $$$ /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
Two local dealers like to get there hands on B5100,B6100,B7100,B1750 models in fair to upwards shape and if one has attachment they love to dicker.
The larger B models come and go thru the dealers but mostly are from lawn and care companies, but the privite owner B models hardly ever show up at dealer lot.
You now got me wondering about a different market.

4 above zero here w/a windchill factor of -15...brrrrrr.

Bird,
I'm not trying to be a smart @ss,but just look how you take care of your equipment.
Know wonder you got a good trade in and I bet your B7100 was the first of the three to be sold.
Its guys like you which guys like us like to seek out and purchase equipment from also dealers.

/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gifI don't think I do anything unusual, Thomas. Of course, I had asked the dealer to come out to the house and see the tractor and tell me what he'd give me for it (I'm 50 miles from the dealer). Instead he just asked how many hours and whether it had any dents or damage, and we made the whole deal on the phone, so he hadn't even seen it until he came to deliver the new one and pick up the old one (brought all the paperwork with him for me to sign at the time of delivery)/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I purchased a 1983 B7100, 700hrs,. with westendorf FEL, 4x4, stick shift and box blade for $5700. It was in very good condition. I thought that price was very good. I traded it (950hrs) in for a nearly new 2000 3710 last year and got $7700 for trade in and that was not based on list price for the 3710. In good running condition with FEL, are probably worth $5500 to $7000 (private sale). Yours has a few hours but still not what I consider a lot. For the number of hours, $6500 is probably near the high end for a private deal. (dealer could ask that much if not more.) My brother has 3000hrs on his (1983) and has done nothing more than routine maintenance. One dealer said he took one in on trade-in that had almost 10,000hrs but also said it appeared very used. If your like most compact tractor users, you will probably average 100-150hrs/year.
The initial black smoke is normal and should be of no concern. The b7100 is a great little tractor and extremely reliable if maintained. I didn't consider it underpowered for its size. Yes, it will slow down in heavy grass when mowing but just go slower. If you can get the price to $6000 or less, then I would probably buy it.
