Kubota B7100D
Hi. I'm a new owner of an old tractor. I've never owned a tractor before but a couple of weeks ago I bought a Kubota B7100D. This weekend I'm going to install the ROPS I just got from the local Kubota dealer. The instructions make it look pretty easy, but I thought I'd ask the TBN community for some advice or suggestions. It looks like all I need to do is take off the right rear wheel, take off the PTO guard and bolt on the ROPS (which includes a PTO guard). The tires on this tractor are weighted. Any idea of how much a tire will weigh? Are there any tricks to getting the wheel off? Any suggestions on getting the ROPS installed? Thanks for any thoughts and have a great 4th of July weekend.

Welcome to TBN SBB.
I'm sure the ROPS install will just be a matter of wrench work. I don't have first hand experience with ROPS installation, just a lot of experience with wrench work..

The tires on the B7100 aren't all that big, but if you mean they're fill with some kind of liquid ballast when you said "The tires on this tractor are weighted", just talk a friend to help you out with em, you'll do fine ;) (they'll be heavy, don't go at it youself if you can help it)

Welcome to TBN

I put a ROPS on my B6100D when I got it 8 years ago. I also have filled rear tires.

I got a chain hoist and put it up in my barn/garage and hoisted the ROPS up with that. Backed the Tractor up so it was in just the right position, then jacked it up (jack under the right-rear axel housing) so the weight was just off the right rear wheel. This made removing and moving the wheel easy since I didn't really have to lift it at all.

Having the ROPS hanging made it easy to position and get bolted in place. Frankly I don't know how it could be done without hanging it somehow - certainly not by just one person...

Best of luck - you will really find your B7100 to be quite the little workhorse.

Thanks irwin and WVBill. This site may be the most helpful (and friendly) website I've ever used. The ROPS project is done. Irwin was dead-on right. The toughest part about the install was just the wrench work. WVBill, you hit the nail on the head with the hoist idea. If I wouldn't have done that the ROPS install would have been a real challenge. Thanks again to you both.

That's great...:D

When I look at an older tractor with an eye on purchase, whether it has a ROPS is a big factor. I've been trying to come up with a doable ROPS for the IH 2424 I have. Driving it without one has me paranoid on some spots around irwin Farm.

Glad it worked out, SBB. Enjoy your tractor.

The dealership wanted to charge me $250 (just for the part, not for the installation), but when I said something like, "I wonder why the Kubota website said it costs $148" the salesman said, "Oh, yeah that's right. It's $148." He charged me $148 plus $25 for shipping. Before you go into your local Kubota dealer check out this web page: http://www.kubota.com/F/safety/rops.pdf. I read somewhere that Kubota sells the ROPS on the old tractors for cost and then pays the dealers something for their trouble. Good luck.

Yea, based on other Kubota parts I've purchased, I'd say they are selling this ROPS for about 10 or 20 cents on the dollar.

$148 - that's the same price I paid for my B6100 ROPS ten years ago.

I'm sure Kubota writes off the loss against the potential for liability suits.
