Yesterday at 50.1 hours on the clock, I did the 50 Hr Maintenance. A week or so ago, I picked up the supplies while at the dealer's to get some extra pins. The dealer had a list in the computer, so he just threw stuff in a box for me. I wasn't paying much attention, but did notice there were 4 boxes marked "Filter". Early yesterday I started with the engine oil change. When none of the new filters looked just like the old one I called the dealer to see what went where. The one filter was obviously for the fuel, but the other three were pretty similar looking except for length. Here's what they told me:

Engine Oil - #70000-15241
Left Trans - #66021-36060
Right Trans - #67955-37710

I noted the numbers in my maintenance book, and figured mebbe someone else here may find the info helpful. There were some filings / shavings of metal caught by the transmission strainer. Other than not having as much elbow room as I'd like in my garage, it went well. After servicing the tractor, there was still enough Saturday left to log another 4-1/2 hours of seat time. Gave her the 50 Hr. wash job too................chim

Ihad a very similar situation this morning. I went out into the garage at 7:30 to do the 50 hr. service. Drained the oil , greased the fittings , removed the old filter. Opened the box for the new filter and I almost blew my stack. You are so correct the new filters look very different.

When I called to ask about the filters, I heard someone in the background say something like "yeah, that's the one that fits most everything". The one they were discussing at the time (engine oil) was white and a bit shorter than the original. Maybe the dealership discovered some interchangability to cut down on what they need to stock.

Another thing I forgot to mention was about removing the fuel filter bowl. As long as the bowl was partly threaded on, the fuel kept coming out. When it was fully removed, the fuel shut off completely. When I was removing the bowl, I had been going slowly to let the fuel spill in a controlled manner so it could be caught. It is better to remove the bowl quickly.............chim

Chim;

I've purchased oil filters for by B7500HST twice now and I think they were different each time. The oil filters were physically smaller than the filter that was on the tractor when I bought it. The last two times that I changed the oil filter, I've had to re-tighten it by hand after I've run the tractor for awhile; after that first re-tightening, it stays on fine until the next time I change it.

I got a little supply of both oil and hydraulic oil filters, and write on the fact of the box which is which.

Question - you said that you got a left and right filter for the transmission. I only have one filter for the hydro (I think mine is a year 2000 model). The filter is on the same side of the tractor as the oil filter. Where is your second hydo filter located?

I've only changed the hyrdo oil/filter once. I couldn't figure out where in the world the strainer was, so I didn't pull mine. Fluid still seems nice and clear though.

The reason for the difference in the oil filters is one is american, the other isn't. The cost of the 70000 oil filter is about 75% less. When we order the oil filters, we are shipped the 70000 filters. In reply to the last post. The "rock screen" is within the large hard line going to the oil pump. It goes from the bottom of the tranny case to the top of the pump. The bolt that retains the large hard line at the case is actually the primary strainer, and it keeps large particles out of the system. There should be one hydro filter for the case, and one for the HST. If I'm not mistaken, the trans has been turned to create the "walk through" deck. So, one should be on top of the hydro drive, the other on the case.

Snowman, Here is a pic of the left filter. I don't know the date of manufacture of mine, but assume it was recent. It was in a crate till about two months ago. Behind the filter is the screen. It looks like a hex nut holding a banjo fitting. I'll post a top view in the next post.

chim,

Thanks for the pictures. I'll have to take a look when I get home tonight. Since I never saw the black left hand filter, that would explain why I could not find the strainer either.

I'm an extremely novice do-it-yerselfer when it comes to this, and I thought I had looked over everything really closely when I changed the hydro oil, including going through the so called manual a number of times and I do not recall seeing any mention of two filters.

Were both hydro filters the same part #?

Thanks

You're welcome. From comments made by the other poster, maybe all B7500HST's aren't alike with respect to filters. Mine was new a couple months ago, and it is pretty flat where your feet rest - no hump. Filters had different numbers, 66021-36060 (left) and 67955-37710 (right).

I'd be sure to have a look at the strainer the next time you have it drained down. Like I said, mine had caught some filings. My strainer is like a hollow bolt with a long sieve attached to the end. I'll try to attach a sketch...........chim
