Barn door

I’m in the process of trying to make this old corn crib/barn useable again. I am re-leveling and blocking it now. It was open on both ends but with the thievery where I live I need to put a door on the front now. Any ideas or recommendations? I would like a sliding door but I don’t think it would clear the overhang. Thanks

you can put up a pair of sliding doors. should be fine.

No one will ever worry about getting carbon monoxide poisoning in that building :laughing:

but i sure like it when people try and save older buildings. I cant stand seeing old buildings just sit and fall apart.

What about putting all the locks on the inside to make it thief proof, and a small door, we call a wicket door, that is almost bullet proof with good locks, to get inside first.

You can go a little too crazy, at some point they will figure you spent enough effort you must have something really valuable and take a chainsaw to the wall to get in.

You nailed it, GLyford. Doors and locks keep honest people honest. A thief will figure out how to get in, no matter what you do.

Are the timbers and rafters solid? I've seen places like that fall in on themselves due to bugs and water rot.
