I need to bend about 64 sticks of 5/8 rebar 90 degrees. I also need to bend rebar into a gentle arc as I am building a tank.

Kraft makes a T-cut rebar bender and a *regular* rebar bender. What is a T-cut rebar bender? Which one is easier to use??

I'd think those devices are for making short severe bends in the rebar.

Have you considered heating with a torch and bending around a form to get the desired radius?

Rebar should never be heated or welded. That damages its strength.

Rather than buying a tool, why not get the bars fabricated in a specialty reinforcing shop? They have all the magic tools already. I ordered my bars precut and prebent for a recent project and it wasn't that much more money for the service.

Also, since they have the tools, they aren't limited by size. So, rather than using #5 bars that you could bend yourself, you could use bigger ones less often depending on your design.

The local building supply will bend the 90s for 25 cents per bend which is very reasonable. I'll opt for that. The arcs would include a lot of bends and I may want to do them myself.

I haven't used 5/8's or #5 rebar, so this might now work, but I've found that the receiver hitch on my truck works great for bending 1/2 inch, or #4, rebar. If you're not doing it for a living, and you only want to bend it for this project, I'd find somethink that you can slide it through that will hold it while yuo bend it.

For cutting, my cordless sawzall slices through rebar in just seconds. I use fresh blades, but it's still so easy that buying something specific to do this just doesn't make sense to me.

Good Luck,
Eddie

When you put the rebar into the trailer hitch, slide a piece of 3/4" iron pipe about 3' long over the part you are going to hold onto to make the bend. This keeps it straight right up to the bend.

#5 bar is MUCH harder to bend than #4. Consider getting it done at a shop, or using #4 bar.
