Best chains for loose soil and mud

I'm looking into getting chains for at least the rear of my Ford 2120 to help me haul logs out of the bush. On my other tractor, a Ford 1720, I have used double ring chains and Duogrip chains. The Duogrip worked pretty well on my driveway and other hard packed snow and ice, but didn't perform well at all compared to the double rings when I went into deep snow or mud. Of course I've looked at the pick type chains such as Trygg, etc and understand how they excel on ice and hard pack, but are they a match for the double rings in deep snow, loose soil, and mud?

ps: I've tried the search function and found a lot of info regarding snow chains, but didn't find much of anything on chains for much.

While the TRYGG and similar are excellent chains for ice and snow and they are all I use.
The double ring chains are hard to beat in mud, the skidder ring chains are also very good in mud as well as climbing across downed limbs.

Aqualine also sells a line of tire chains. I had a set of MPC chains on turf tires and didnt have problems pulling logs in the woods.

Thanks for that insight nyone. Was it muddy where you've pulled logs? There are a couple of places I need to go that can get kind of deep and soupy.

The best thing is just not to go in there with your tractor if the conditions are like that. If you have to go in to mud, double ring chains are a good bet. They don't work as well as some other options in ice or snow, but they are the designed for mud

Best thing for mud is to stay out of it..... Twice I have had to use Jeep with winch to pull tractor out of mud bog....

great minds think alike, I guess.

I've gotten stuck in a ditch a few times plowing snow in the winter: just got a bit too close while plowing heavy wet snow, slid in, and could not get back out without help. I'm sure it will probably happen again in the future. I can;t avoid having to dig out after a big snow.

I've gotten seriously mired in the mud once out in an area of my woods that always takes forever to dry out. I did manage to get myself out, but I knew better and should not have been out there in the first place. After seeing the mess it made of the area, I'm committed to not repeating the mistake.

I used to live in the big woods where there was nothing but mud, snow and rain and all I ever saw was ring chains. I don't remember too many getting stuck.

Some had had "power trailers" that were trailers made from a truck axle that had a PTO shaft and was driven off the tractor PTO. That helped and I don't think many were ever stuck.
