I carry a 10 ton bottle jack in my tongue box as my change-a-tire jack for the trailer. also serves as the keep-the-back-from-tipping-to-far jack.

In addition i would also cut the legs off the ramps because there are several times when i like the rear-end squat. especially when loading cars as it levels out the transition from ramps to trailer and helps with low-clearance cars.

I also just take an assortment of scrap wood blocks [ cribbing ] with me and put them on the rear corners... If you can't pull them out after loading, just pull forward and slide/topple the blocks... won't hurt them or the trailer. Good to carry something like that all the time if you have to change a tire, or block the wheels/unhitch for some unforeseen reason. A few hunks of 6 by 6 or 8 and some two by four scraps won't be missed if you leave them somewhere, either...

So you put down the pinned jack and then put a load on the trailer. How do you get it off?

Just keep driving until it wears down.... ;)

Seriously, when loading tractors on my trailer, the back end would always dip the most when the tractor is right over the rear (one axle could be on the trailer and the other on ramps or somewhere in that neighborhood). And then when driving forward to the actual trailering position on the deck, the trailer's rear end would lift back up. So it's just a matter of setting jack at the right height. Same deal when using blocks -- you don't block all the way -- always leave a gap so the blocks can slide back out when loaded.

The best way is to use attached spring assist stand up ramps that have the supports on them. They are also the easiest short of a drop/tilt deck trailer.

Truth! I hate the slide out ramps for this exact reason (and I always bleed when I have used them). They lack a foot to help support the trailer when loading that makes loading a non issue.

This is an Aluma trailer with the adjustable jack stands on a hinge. I really like them.

I welded jacks onto the rear of my equipment trailer:

That's an excellent example of some fine Maine rust.

Ain't it tho? :D

I got a heckuva deal on that trailer because the powder coat failed on it before it ever left the lot. Paint peeled off in sheets.

Don't seem to affect it's performance tho.

I have tried Jack stands, scissor jack, bottle jack and 6 x 6 blocks. I load and unload several times a day and I have decided that blocks are best since they are cheap and fast. I attach a 2 x 4 to the side and store it in the stake pocket.

This is what I did. Works for me. As you can see. It uses a pin to attach and while I could just rotate it and leave it in place I choose to put it in my tounge box where I store my chains and boomers.
