Don't want to reinvent the wheel so I was wondering if anyone has made some sort of plate to go over the teeth on the BH bucket? This would be a great help for backfilling with the BH. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Bill,
There are several manufactures out there that make such an item. Off the top of my head, I can't think of there names.
They come in sizes from around 12" up to 10', some bolt on, some clamp on.
I have often that a person could make one cheap enough and that at times it would be a darned handy little attachment for backfilling and grading with the backhoe.
Oh !! one of the company's is

Mark, thanks for the info. I never thought about something wider than the bucket. They are a pricey unit but maybe something to have fabricated. Thanks again.

You should be able to have one made from some 3/4" plate steel really inexpensively that could be held on from the rear by two bolts. Just slip it over the teeth. Ones I've seen were all made that way and are used when scraping out road culverts although I could see where going wider than the bucket width could also be useful!

Some of them that I have seen, "in magazines only" have the ends bent at an angle back towards the machine so as to help hold the dirt. Kind of like wings on a snowplow only backwards. This picture is a Halls blade

Billfires,
Another way to do this.....if you have pin on teeth, use the two outside teeth, allign a piece of 3/4 by 4 or 6" wide steel on top of the teeth and weld it to the outside teeth only,to remove it knock the pins out of the teeth, and the whole thing slides off,of course you'll have to buy two other teeth to replace the ones you just welded and a few extra pins.

Tags, great idea. Keep in mind that this will only work if the outside bucket teeth are sticking straight out, it will not work if the teeth are canted outward from bucket sides.

cheers,
