Looking on the New Holland web site yesterday and noticed the new Boomer
8N. Really nice looking. I have a 1952 8N I've been restoring. Has anyone bought or seriously looked at the new one and any idea of the price range?

Many of us have looked at them and the price is outrageous. From what I can tell, they make nice decorations to sit in front of the dealership. Unlike the original 8N, this one will be rare because so few are sold. In my opinion, the best part of the Boomer 8N is the seat and the paint job.

At $32500-38000 equipped with a loader they aren't selling many!

My local dealer has 3 of them that have been there since September. They are nice tractors but the price scares everyone away.

What are your thoughts on the CVT?

I've never had a tractor with a CVT but I did have a Ford 500 with one. It worked just fine but it was hard getting used to never feeling a shift point as your speed increased and yet the tach showed the rpm's going down.

They are nice to look at... But I bought a tractor to work, not look at.

I like the theory of the CVT just fine, but I have not driven one. I went to look at a Boomer 8N and found that the brake pedal could not be split, there's only one pedal. Then, the salesman my dealership has hired came out and started trying to fill my head with "facts" I knew were not true. I went from wanting to test drive the tractor to wanting to get out of there as quickly as possible. I knew I was looking at a "waxin' tractor" when I noticed how the engine oil filter, HST filter, and hydaulic filters had all been painted the same color of red as the running gear. You gotta be kidding me.

Another member recently posted about PTO problems with his regular CVT TC40DA. When I researched the issue, I found that NH has changed the PTO hydraulic clutch to being controlled by solenoids. His tractor had an error code displayed that indicated a problem. I'm also not fond of "error code" tractors unless the tractor is so complex it needs a computer to run it. If it's that complex, I probably don't want it anyhow.

Jim,
There is an optional split brake set up that has the brake pedals on the left (correct) side. They show a conversion kit on the NH website under the parts section.
I didn't know anything about CVT so I asked my buddy that's an engineer for Caterpillar. He liked the idea of CVT and thought the NH CVT would likely be a good trans. He thought more companies would start using them but wouldn't say if Cat was working on one.
I'm with you on the solenoids and computer. Just more stuff to break down. We have a 30' man lift that used to be electric over hydraulic. Those solenoids were nothing but trouble. We converted it to full hydraulic. It was expensive to do but well worth it in the long run. I can't think of a good reason for a diesel tractor to have a computer.

I did not know that. Why didn't that wacky salesman tell me that. Instead, he made up some story about the CVT didn't need split brakes since the tractor was so heavy? Sheesh!
