I just downloaded the New Holland screensaver off of their website. It is a collection of photos of various pieces of New Holland equipment. In one photo, it shows a crawler tractor that looks like it has Boomer styling. I haven't seen this machine on their website before. I attached a pic. I had to crop it to make it within the site guidelines of 100kb.

It is the NH TK crawler. Based off the TN. They are listed on the NH site and are sold in some areas where there are lots of hills. NH TK page

They are a nice looking piece of equipment. But I have to tell you I laughed the first time I saw a picture of it. It looks like someone bought a NH tractor and cobbled tracks on to it. I guess NH's unique styling has burned into our minds just as they intened.

Back to the tractor. I can think of more than a few uses for it. Maybe I can talk my rich neighbor into buying one, and then I'll borrow it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I got to tell you I would buy one in a heartbeat! I am a member of the OLIVER Collectors Association. OLIVER GREEN IS THE CORRECT COLOR GREEN TO PAINT A TRACTOR!

Anyway, those of us who fancy the old American iron that rumbled the fields long ago know that Oliver bought out the Cleveland Tractor Company, also called Cletrac. Cletrac were miniture bulldozer type tractors and eventually were modernized (in the 1950's) into the Oliver line-up with the correct color scheme. The Cletracs were popular in the hills of Pennsylvania (althought apparently not popular enough) as well as some of the hilly wine growing regions of California.

Now you want to talk about fun tractors, go hop on one of these dozer tractors and take a spin. I've even seen them modified with a piece of 4' length 2x4 lumber bolted to each of the pieces of the track to make the whole tractor sit about 12' wide and used to run across frozen lakes and climb snow covered hills (the original snowmobiles???)

Hmm. . . the wife did ask what I wanted for Christmas . . . maybe an old Cletrac to restore and play with /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My grandfather had an old Oliver crawler tractor. When he bought it, he only paid $50 for it. He fixed it up. It still runs today. When he was alive he added a dozer blade to the front. In order to raise the blade you have to turn a crank. He did a real nice job with crafting the blade. It seems REAL heavy duty. Anyway, if you have the blade raised and let go of the crank and it goes spinning, do not try to stop it, it will break your hand/arm. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I wish I had the dozer now-a-days, but it basically belongs to other members who basically claimed it for themselves. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Our friend who maintains one of our woods has a OC-3 with loader. Fun little tractor. I have been hoping to find a JD MC crawler for a few dollars to fix up but so far everyone I have seen wants more then I want to pay. So I am still looking. I did almost get the OC-3 from my friend, was going to trade him my quad for that and some cash but he backed out of that deal when he realized that the quad wouldn't pull trees out of the woods like the OC-3.

Well I am glad to hear that I am not the only one out there who thinks a little crawler tractor would be a good idea. Every time I float it past the MRS she pretty much says I am nuts.

Maybe one day when she is out of town. . .

I have often thought that if any of the manufacturers would build a small crawler, it would sell very well. There are many jobs that all of us use our compacts for that would be better suited for a crawler. If JD, NH, or Kubota could get a 30hp model on the market with 3pt hitch, PTO and a front blade, I think they would have a best seller.

These things look pretty neat.
The cost is higher but not horable when you consider the capabilities.
http://www.westcoastagrentals.com/new.htm

Look at some of the specs:
8200 lbs for the 3 point in a 60 hp drawbar tractor!
Both 540 and 1000 rpm, switchable pto speed.
Possibility of 5 remotes.
The small one weights 8460 lbs without ballast!

Anyone know what type of rating for side slopes? The regular tractor is 20 degrees so you would think this would be higher.

Look at the track loaders available from AVS, Cat, Bobcat, ect. There you go. It's not an open cab crawler, but they are amazingly capable. TONS of attachments fit them.

Yes, though, those old OC's and Cletracs are pretty cool. I wouldn't mind having one to park next to my old Farmall.
