Thank you for assisting me remotely with this purchase. I closed the deal today. I'm a tractor neophyte from the suburbs. I'm also posting so other newbees/NFGs/neophytes/green horns may benefit.

Dealer was great! After I did my homework across multiple web sites, forums, eBay, Iron Planet, etc. My wife finally said it was too much research and I should get on with the darn purchase and back to her projects.

Pricing info was tough to get on used machines because Kubota owners keep their units. This was the first tip-off to me that I was on the right track. I did consider JD, NH, MF & Branson. I wouldn't touch the grey market or the Chinese brands due to lack of parts and service....just no support, not to mention the lack of safety devices.

I approached the dealer. Sales rep was busy, so one of the technician's stepped in immediately. They obviously work as a team! We had a candid discussion of Kubota's BX and B series features and capabilities.

My research left me with 8 questions. The sales rep answered all accurately and made some suggestions. I offered to pay for a rental on a BX22 Tractor Backhoe Loader to try it out. The rep. offered a 60/40 split on rental rebate if I purchased.

After some more discussion, the rep recognized I was serious about buying and he offered a 5 hour demo rental free....no delivery charges, absolutely no cost. I told him I was going to do actual work cleaning up some drainage & irrigation trenching and moving gravel. I did the work and sold myself.

I asked for a MMM, tooth bar and work lights be added based on the posts I read on Tractorbynet.com. The unit was a rental unit with warranty starting at my purchase:) The chain hooks & brackets will come later with a pallet fork set installation.

Deal closers & positives:
-Kubota dealer is literally 7 minutes away.
-Dealer didn't try to upsell me - low key sales approach.
-Unit is warrantied - not taking a chance on eBay or private sale
- Price
- Demo time
- Tractor familiarization/training
- Dealer lets me ask neophyte questions and make implement suggestions for the work I'm doing

Nice, very nice. Also a good first post, this site is the best. I too learned a lot from this site. I almost got to work in your area, but the railroad, just moves me at will. Any way, should be heading to Louisiana this week some time, where, with any luck, my new BX 23 will be waiting.

Good luck with your Honey dew Jobs, seams she has already got your number, with stuff that she needs done around the house.

Welcome to TBN

I just got my first tractor Saturday, B7800 . Dang there sure are a lot of little things to know. I guess if we keep coming back here to TBN pretty soon we will look like we know what were talking about /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck with your BX22.

Congratulations on the new machine. You will enjoy owning a Kubota for certain. The only thing that I don't agree on for two reasons, is 1)... the turf tires... you won't need them, and 2) $400 is $100 more than they should cost. Save the money and put it toward something else that you will need/want in the future. I have both sets of tires, and the turfs have never been mounted on the tractor. Most of us here have the same experiance.... buying both sets of tires, but only using the bar tires in the end. Get an extra set of MMM blades, and make sure that the spindles have been well greased before you put it to work.

I can only confirm Junkmans answer.

I bought an extra sets of industrials a couple of weeks ago:

2 each front BAR TIRES and WHEELS and
2 each rear BAR TIRES and WHEELS .............. adds $295.

I'll probably wear down the first set of industrials enough to use them as turfs soon enough. And it's handy for me to keep an extra set in case of punctures.

These are the Industrial treads right, not the bar (Ag) treads? Did you pruchase from the dealer or other? I priced a set of bar tires (no industrials offered) and wheels at the time of my BX2200 purchase four years ago at $800. Needless to say I did not purchase them.

Yes, it was industrials. Purchased at dealer. I have seen several other people buying at the same price from other dealers.

Btw, I'm now waiting for my tractor. It's in a US harbour waiting to be shipped to London, then Norway. Should only be a month and a half until it's here....

And you guys complain about waiting a long time to have tractors delivered /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Checked with my dealer today (New Holland, Kubota). All he had to offer was the standard Kubota bar tire & wheel combination for $296. Guess I will have to look at the aftermarket for the R-4 Indutrial tires if I get them. Of course the dealer tried to convince me that the bar tires would not cause any more damage than the turf tires. don't know about that. Most of my seat time is on turf, not all of it being mine.

Any leads (in the states) on where to check for the R-4 tires?

Tires
Tip 0013

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are three main types of tires on tractors today, Agricultural, Turf, and Industrial (R4). Each of these types of tires has specific applications. While tread designs vary between manufacturers the basic purpose of each tire design is the same.
Agricultural (AG) tires are the traditional tractor tires. The AG tire is tall and narrow with deep cleats, designed for maximum traction; pulling plows in a field, working in the woods and operating in muddy conditions. These tires can damage a lawn or field.

The turf tire is designed to minimize damage to a lawn. These tires are short and wide. Typically turf tires have soft sidewalls and non-aggressive tread. On a four wheel drive tractor these tires perform well year round for many homeowners.

The industrial tire was designed for loader work. They tend to be a wide tire with a stiff sidewall. The R4 is not as aggressive as an AG tire, but has substantially more traction than a turf tire. Many customers find R4's work well mowing lawns because they spin less than a turf tire.

Which tire is right for your tractor is a matter of personal choice based upon your needs. However, if our sales are any indication the R4 is the tire of choice for most people.
