I've been able to use the new box blade I purchased at rick's at the cookout.

This is one of the best ground engaging tools I've ever owned. Superb at rock farming, grading and leveling.

Not much else to say, if you've ever considered one, I would not hesitate.

My woods is excellent.

Sincerely,
Joel

You've got that right Joel! It's the first implement I bought when I got my first tractor. It's commonly found on the back of my Jinma, and will be a regular on the Kioti. I even use mine to skid logs, as you can wrap the chain around the ripper bar, and lift the logs up and into the back of the blade. I'm sure you'll come up with a multitude of uses for it!

And the potential for "damage" is much less with the box blade than with a dozer!

Good point on damage. Those rippers are purpose built and there is nothing better I've used at getting rocks out of the soil.

A really great tool.

Which one did you get? I picked up a used woods GB-60 box grader, the paint wasn't even scratched. The guy said he used it 3 times over 2 years, then sold his tractor and bought a bobcat skid steer. I got it for $400. Haven't had time to try it out yet. Glad to know that it works well on getting rocks out.

That's the woods model I've got. Great tool, paid twice the price new, still no regrets.

Thats good to know. I got very lucky on the price, he said he hadn't really shopped it around and wasn't sure what to ask for, thats when I said "how about $400" he paused for a little bit, then agreed. I had been looking for a while and most of the prices I got for various brands was $600 for a light duty up to $1000. So I figured I made out pretty good, just can't wait to use it.

Fine, I get it already, so I need to get one of these. hmmmm

I actually have a set of rippers, I wonder how much effort it would take to make one of these... :D

Now if only I still had my good welder... :(

Joel, what are rocks up your way? I find plenty of 12 inch diameter just at the surface. Is the BB going to pull these up OK or is this asking too much. Of course, I'd be breaking the sod at the same time.

Maybe you are describing a cultivated field and the annual harvest of frost heave rocks?

I havn't been brave enough to take the BH off yet, but when I am, I'll give the BB a try.

if your tractor is heavy enough you'll have not problem, I'm pulling up rocks bigger than that, a couple of passes on some occasions but they come up.

The big big rocks get backhoed or dozered.

Think about what you're saying here. Raking 12" rocks? That's like a basketball. Do you even have that much clearance under your front axle? To get your ripper teeth under a 12" stone that is level with the surface you'd need to have the sides of your box well into the soil. This sounds like a case of a fish "this" big. You could pop out one 12" rock with a wood bit of effort and creative BB work but the B is snot the right tool for picking hundreds of them.

Now a dozer with a rake, that would be nice to remove them. Then scoop them off and haul them away with your DK.
