Looks like I might have to go dig around in my junk drawer, find and old 33/64th drill, turn the shank down in the lathe to below 1/2", and send it to Spiveyman. One of my friends favorite sayings is that "even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then" must not apply to Spiveyman. Even as slow as I am, I can probably get that done before they finish mining the ore that they are going to make his toothbar out of.

David,
After you do that, stick it in a Harig spin jig and grind 3 equally spaced flats on the shank so it won't spin in his drill chuck. Or send it to me after you turn it and I'll do it. I'll bet he would still get it before he gets his toothbar.
LOL ... He IS getting a toothbar, right?(someday):)

First of all, this will be my 500th post! Yippy kay yay! Gives me a real appreciation for Bird's 20K+

Secondly, I'm not too proud to accept charity. You can send that bit to... maybe I should PM the address.

Third, don't worry about turning it down for me. If I had a bit that didn't fit my chuck that would justify me getting a bigger drill, right? I bought a wave runner one time because I had a truck with a ball hitch and nothing to pull. :) (That was a long time ago when I was single, not so frugal, and had NO fiscal responsibility so stop with the "rich" jokes.)

Fourth, what's a hog want with an acorn? I thought it was a blind squirrel. Shouldn't a blind hog be looking for a mud hole or a slop bucket?

Fifth, ...day 37 of the tooth bar watch... Just hung up with the guy at the shop, nothing on the horizon yet. I'm not making this stuff up. I swear! Most normal people could get a tooth bar in a week or so. And with my luck the dang thing will probably come in for a left handed bucket and I'll have to re-order the whole deal! :D

I appreciate your sense of humor, good naturedness, as well as your openess :D! TBN has become a confessional to many probably because of the sense of community that exists here :). Jay

PS: I purchased larger sized washers at TSC to cover my egged out drillings ;). I will add that my "handiwork" with the drillling has not negatively impacted on the tootbar's performance.

Jay, I'll take a seat at the confessional this time.

I learned long ago, that a Dremel tool with those little round stones and then later, a die grinder, was nothing more than a Drilled Hole Self-actualizer.
I have self-actualized many a hole from 9/16ths up to 19/32nds using a dremel rotary tool! I like your washer theory.

3RRLs advice about the Silver and Deming set is right on! I picked one up about a year ago, and wow, I have gotten a heckuvva lot of use out of it.
For tractor projects it's pretty much a necessity, allows you to drill those 3/4" and 7/8" CAT 1 pin holes, and all the other greater than 1/2" stuff.

I give the Silver and Deming Bit set the SkunkWerX seal of approval.
Got it at the Harbor [cough] Freight Store. $29.99 on sale.

There is no other feeling on earth , like that of a 1" drill bit, getting snagged suddenly as it comes out the other side, immediately spinning your drill, wrist and forearm around like a twisted pretzel.

SkunkWerX:

I have S & D drill bits and I can definitely relate to the
"torque factor" of a large drill bit binding up . I will add that I never thought to use my Dremel for "fine tuning". Thank you for that suggestion :D! Your suggestion will come in handy :). Jay

My dump trailer uses four sets of homemade hinges across the back, with a 1.65" pin thru it. Those twelve holes took me a while to drill. I started to put a grease fitting in it, but figured the grease fitting would collect more dirt than the hinge, being right in the line of dumping. Still could add one from inside the frame but it would still wear out sooner or later.
I left the mounting for the part loose while I was drilling it, so if the single flute drill caught, it would come loose instead of tearing something up.

This is a picture of one set out of the four sets that make up the hinge. Hard to do with a 1/2" drill motor.

Yikes! That is some serious drill work. Kind of makes my stuff look like whittling butter. We're in the middle of working the cattle right now, but I'll be back on the phone next week trying to find that tooth bar.

Here's some cool metal work. I'll get a better shot of it later, but here's our irons in the flame. We had two different one's made by different people. The work on the left one is amazing!

Hard to see what they look like in the fire. Can you show us what they look like on a cow?

Yep, will do. It was dark by the time we got to that last night so I couldn't get a shot of one on a bull. We did one with white on his hind section, and it turned out real nice. I'll get some shots of the brand tomorrow, both metal and on the animals. The cool thing in relation to this thread though was the metal work on that one, lots of welds, looked really good to me, but them I'm not exactly qualified to judge such things.

This is what the brand looks like, it's our company logo as well:

Here you go David from jax, this is a young bull that I had just branded:

After branding we smear the brand with Vasciline to keep the flies off of it.

I have been posting in another thread about cattle, since this is supposed to be more about tractor stuff over here, however, we did use the carry all on the back of my tractor as a field table - so I think it counts... kind of.... and my tooth bar is still not here (big surprise  )

You can see the tractor in this shot, and where we worked the cattle:

Just wanted to tie this post in, the carry all was actually VERY usefull out there, to have a 6 foot wide table to organize things on. In that shot there are just a few things thrown on it, but we did get it all set up before we started working them. More when the tooth bar comes in... I'm starting to think IF the tooth bar comes in.
