Once again, I need some help. I came across a Ferguson #25 disk set in 7.5' (came highly reccommended by FarmWithJunk). The thing was in great shape and stored indoors...so I probably paid a bit too much. Anyway, I get it down to my cabin property any get it hooked up and adjusted and make about 6 passes when I hear a snaping noise. Get down to the end of the field and turn around and come back. I see a peice of steel and get off to see what it was. It was the cast iron peice on the end of the front axle that rubs together with the other side or gang. I think it's called a bumper. Looks about like this one: 1 AXLE BUMPER WASHER - Agri Supply
This is as close as I can find to looking like mine. My axle is 1" and the broken bumper has a hole that is 1" square at the small end and tapers larger to the outside end. Of course the axles are shaped the same on the end. Is this the way they all are? From the picture I can't tell. If the replacement bumpers are not tapered, I would assume it may break the new ones as the axle nuts are tightened down. Maybe the axles have to also be replaced to match the bumpers or I need to find another sorce for the tapered type. I am also thinking I should replace the other side so they are the same and will react together. Any thoughts?
