My King Kutter brush hog is losing gear oil from the gear box. It's not coming out around the gear box on top of the deck. Any idea where it would be coming out?

I'm confused. Leaking oil should be pretty easy to trace. Bottom/output seal, input seal, cover gasket or fill/drain plug. ?

Pump the gearbox full of grease and don't worry about it.

Well, you see, I don't know the first thing about the seals, where they are, how to check them, etc.. I'll watch some YouTubes about them. Thanks.

Really? You mean grease like goes into the grease fittings? Just shoot it in the gear oil fill-hole? I like this idea!

Any further advice on doing this? Fill it all the way up?

Some will say use corn head grease, personally I have pumped 2 gearboxes full of regular off the shelf grease and have never had another problem, pump a cartridge full in the fill hole of your gearbox and about once a year whenever you do maintenance on your mower pump a little in the gearbox, you will be fine.

If grease filled brush hog gearbox was trouble free & the way to go, I wonder how come they are not designed that way to start with?

To me it sounds like a bit of a band-aid fix...

Feel the top of the stump jumper...is it oily up there? The bottom seal is an easy job once you get the stump jumper off.

Yep a band aid fix that will last as long as he owns the cutter.
