I am going to build a skidding winch and am looking for free advice from anyone with experience.I am looking at using either the ramsey patriot 9500 with blue synthetic winch rope,or the mile marker 9500 both 12 volt.Making a skidding plate from 1/4 seel. Not sure on the synthetic with the rocky terrain so I may use galvanized cable.Any help is apprecated and thanks much.

Welcome to the forum
Skidding winch for what? Logs?

What size and weight material are you planning to winch in with this setup?
What will the winch be attached to?

Your profile filled in would really be great. May even help come up with some answers. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Don't use synthetic. It is great for vehicle self recovery as the rope just lays and the winch reels it up.

If you have a hydraulic remote on your tractor you may want to look at going hydraulic.

Deerlope has built one using a hydraulic milemarker and I'm building one with a hydraulic Warn.

building a winch pad huh...sounds like a good plan for your needs. I would go with 1/2 " plate steel, then use only aviation cable, don't forget to have block % tackle too. But this is only my opinion....

There is a good chance that your electrical system will not handle an electric winch. Current draw can be over 400 amps, that is a big gulp of battery power for a truck. I do not know what size battery you have in your tractor or what your charging system is rated at but I believe that the hydraulic winch is the way to go too.
I have a warn ti 9500 on my TJ. I have brought that thing to a dead stop with 3/4+ of the cable out. Cable safety is the most important thing always use a parchute /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I am guessing thats why you wanted syn rope. Slozuki discounted if for this because of the draging potential of the rope. I would agree with that.
