He was about 15 and had been going downhill pretty fast the past year. Probably 80 - 90 lb instead of his former 100+. The wife was really down after finding him gone this AM. He had apparently died in his sleep laying in his favorite spot under the shed on the hill. She was already distraught from our previous day trip to WV to deal with a break in at the house there (they cut plumbing from pressure body & softner for copper, letting water soak furnace room floor, cut most all wiring from breaker box and stole heat pump from outside).
She was really upset about how to care for the dog as I am on light duty (no lifting over 5 lb. no bending twisting or tractor use) for the next few months following lumbar surgery and nobody would be available to help for quite a while. I convinced her we could handle things between the two of us. I talked her through her first use of the 1025R house tractor, she took care of the driving & I ran the loader joystick from the ground til we could get him loaded and ready to transport. She drove him to a good resting place & I carefully ran the BH from the ground by the left rear to excavate his spot. With him safely laid to rest I think it really took a load off her mind. She's a good woman.
