well, I've pretty much decided on a L3830 w/ loader, backhoe, posthole digger, to start. Any suggestions on square loader vs HD round, or anything else? And does anyone think the L39 would be better? I know it makes backhoe work flow more easily.
Thanks, Michael

I have ten acres w/ a large pond, much of it sloped. Tractor use: moving dirt and gravel and rocks and digging to make beds, gardens, plant trees, build patios, terraces, post holes for fencing, clearing tree-lines, grading driveway, brushhogging once a year. My only concern about the 3830 is that the backhoe seems so much easier to access on the L39. Thanks.

I wouldn't even consider a bucket that wasn't heavy duty. If I were to pretzel a light materials bucket, I'd be sick thinking about the fact that the heavy duty version would have been just fine.

Misha, I actually didn't find the L39 that much better ... the seat does swivel, but I had to get up, swivel the seat, squeeze through, sit down. On my 3130, I hop outta the drivers seat, climb up to the bh90 seat.

I have seen used "light duty" buckets. They look like a tin can that has just been crushed. Go HD. You won't regret it.

Misha....I've had both. I now own an L39. I looked into various hoe options and just decided to get the L39. It cannot be compared to a 3830 as far as beef and overall ability, but it costs more, so that's what one would expect. It's heavy duty little guy. The hoe on the L39 will blow away a BH90. It comes off quickly and it's relatively easy to add the 3pt setup. The loader also blows away a 7 series loader on the 3830. Engine is the same. GST on the L39. If you can afford it without hardship, it's a real nice utility tractor. They are more than just a TLB. I really like how the L39 fits into the lineup. Yeah, I've had some little problems here and there, but nothing that would keep me from buying another one. It's something you will likely not outgrow from the sounds of your needs.

**L39 is not a lawn mower.....either is the 3830 for that matter.

I think I would go with the L39 if the backhoe is going to be used alot. Or the L5030 with the 8 series loader. Get a heavy duty bucket (4in1 is very useful). I would focus on the specs of the 7 series loader before buying to be sure it will do what you want, such as reach high enough to load a dumpster. Box blade with TnT is useful too. I like the GST trans on my L4330 and based on the reports of how the HST works, it sounds good too, drive both may be a good idea.
One thing convenient on the CUT is you can get a folding ROPS which can allow the tractor to be driven into a garage.
Take care,
Runk

I don't recall if Michael ever mentioned if he needed to mow. He's on hills so if he needs to mow and wants the best choice for hills, my opinion would be to get a tractor with a removeable loader. I had the L48 and found a non removeable loader to be tedious and slow at best. For mowing on slopes, a removed loader works so much better for obvious reasons like visibility but also because trees, structures, sprinklers and then the bounce and jounce you get on field mowing all are huge factors that you will find having a loader up front makes much harder to accomodate. On the other hand, if you don't need to mow, really need a hoe and don't mind the considerable cost of a tractor with one, I'd go with the L39 over a L30 series and hoe. As Runk mentioned, think about the lift height of the loader. I don't care so much about lift capabilites on compacts, what I would be concerned about is a loader that can fill a dump trailer. If your loading dumpsters, get a L4330 with LA 853 loader. I had the L48 and quite frankly, as strong as the loader was, I don't miss it. The L3830 HST I have makes up for the smaller loads with so much quickness. I have gotten so fast on my L3830 that while no match for a skidsteer, I can keep up with tractors with larger capacities simply because I find the LA 723 and HST medium range to really complement each other. The LA 723 will easily lift a load of the heaviest material I have, toothbar on and bucket heaped, I don't know what else I need after that. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
