I bought my
BX23 with 60MMM about 1 year ago, and have only about 40hrs on it so far, a mix of lawn mowing / maintenance and backhoe work. My other tractor is a JD445 with 60MMM. I bought the Kubota for light hoe and loader work. My opinions on the BX:
/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifPositives:
+ 4WD
+ Absolute ease of on/off for loader and backhoe (I've done them both in 5 minutes total)
+ For a small machine, has very good power, and the backhoe is strong for the weight
+ Size makes easy transport and fits in small spaces for hoe work
+ Very comfortable operator position using the backhoe
+ Easy to refuel with location of tank
+ I was able to get both turfs and bar treads inexpensively. The extra set only cost me $300 for all four tires and wheels (loaded) from the dealer.
+ You can mow with the loader and hoe on
+ Starts really well and runs like a champ
/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifNegatives:
- Would like higher speed of backhoe hydraulics
- Too difficult to drive hoe forward when digging due to seat switch (I've invented a solution - to be posted later)
- I'm more comfortable mowing with my JD.. the bota does a good job, but it is taller than the JD and makes working on hills more stressful, and head clearance under trees is challenged
- The ROPS only half folds down (sticks out behind you)
- Mowing hills in high gear doesn't work, low gear will go anywhere, but the hydraulic power in high gear on inclines will cause a motion (not engine) stall.
- The parking brake is easily left on, and if you're in low gear, the power of the engine overcomes the brakes no problem, so you don't know that you are burning them up. Needs an indicator light! Oh... and the brakes don't work that well to start with. Our previous Kubota had great brakes, this one doesn't
- Getting the mower on and off is not difficult, but takes longer than the hoe and loader
- The underbelly is soft - worry about sticks taking out a filter or fan... can buy skidplate from a guy on these forums to remedy.
- Need to put in neutral to start the tractor
- The stabilizer hydraulics operate in the opposite direction my mind thinks /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif (towards you is down, and away from you is up...)
There are more good and bad attributes, but this is a general overview. I am happy with the setup, but less likely to sell my JD off than I orginally thought because of the benefit each has. If I get the chance to move to more property, I'll look into a larger TLB, but for my current property, this is perfect.
