Hello All,

I am seriously considering buying a BX24. For those who have purchased a BX22/23/24...Do you now wish you purchased a new/used larger tractor? Any regrets?

Thanks in Advance,
Walt

I just got my BX24 on Friday the 26th and already have 15 hours on it. So far I have no regrets on my purchase. Only thing I might have done differently would have been purchasing a separate garden tractor instead of the MMM 60 inch. Reason being is because it seems a pain to take off when wanting to do some heavy work or mowing the lawn. However I have been told that for the money you get excellent tip speed on the blades for a fine cut?

Walt. Let's see..... Regrets on my BX23.... I regret not putting an 8 foot tall garage door on my shop (so that the ROPS doesn't destroy the door when I forget to fold it at the end of the day). I regret that I didn't get the tires foam filled when I bought it. (9 flats and 2 replacement rears in 220 hours) I regret that the BX23 does not have a reasonable location for a tool box. I regret that I bought it from the Dealer that I did.... (He is No help and an SOB to have around. Nobody knows more about Kubota than him.... just ask him) What I would do again? I love the tooth bar on the FEL. A rear blade and rake is a must have. I like the bigger Back Hoe bucket. All in all... it's a Fabulous machine that I could not do without. Sometimes I wish it was bigger.... but then it would not do all of the smaller things that the BX can get into and I think we all have alot more smaller things to do than bigger ones. Every man needs a Back hoe!!!!!! I would buy the BX23 again in the blink of and eye.

I bought my BX23 with 60MMM about 1 year ago, and have only about 40hrs on it so far, a mix of lawn mowing / maintenance and backhoe work. My other tractor is a JD445 with 60MMM. I bought the Kubota for light hoe and loader work. My opinions on the BX:
/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifPositives:
+ 4WD
+ Absolute ease of on/off for loader and backhoe (I've done them both in 5 minutes total)
+ For a small machine, has very good power, and the backhoe is strong for the weight
+ Size makes easy transport and fits in small spaces for hoe work
+ Very comfortable operator position using the backhoe
+ Easy to refuel with location of tank
+ I was able to get both turfs and bar treads inexpensively. The extra set only cost me $300 for all four tires and wheels (loaded) from the dealer.
+ You can mow with the loader and hoe on
+ Starts really well and runs like a champ

/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifNegatives:
- Would like higher speed of backhoe hydraulics
- Too difficult to drive hoe forward when digging due to seat switch (I've invented a solution - to be posted later)
- I'm more comfortable mowing with my JD.. the bota does a good job, but it is taller than the JD and makes working on hills more stressful, and head clearance under trees is challenged
- The ROPS only half folds down (sticks out behind you)
- Mowing hills in high gear doesn't work, low gear will go anywhere, but the hydraulic power in high gear on inclines will cause a motion (not engine) stall.
- The parking brake is easily left on, and if you're in low gear, the power of the engine overcomes the brakes no problem, so you don't know that you are burning them up. Needs an indicator light! Oh... and the brakes don't work that well to start with. Our previous Kubota had great brakes, this one doesn't
- Getting the mower on and off is not difficult, but takes longer than the hoe and loader
- The underbelly is soft - worry about sticks taking out a filter or fan... can buy skidplate from a guy on these forums to remedy.
- Need to put in neutral to start the tractor
- The stabilizer hydraulics operate in the opposite direction my mind thinks /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif (towards you is down, and away from you is up...)

There are more good and bad attributes, but this is a general overview. I am happy with the setup, but less likely to sell my JD off than I orginally thought because of the benefit each has. If I get the chance to move to more property, I'll look into a larger TLB, but for my current property, this is perfect.

I have had my BX23 for about a year and have about 85 mhours on it. I didn't get a mower deck with it because like many others I refuse to use anything but a zero turn to mow(rotary cutter doesn't count).
Have I wished I had a bigger tractor a time or two? Yes, but, I have learned that no matter how much I have I always want more. This goes for boats, cars, tractors, trucks, pretty much anything with an engine. I bought a grapple for mine and it's been the single most used implement I have. I rarely get the tractor out without using it. Just tonight I used it to pick up a small stump several times and drop it to get the dirt off and then place it just right in the brush pile.
The backhoe hydraulics are a little slow but I didn't have any previous experience and didn't notice the difference untill I worked side by side with a larger JD with a backhoe. I have dug several smaller stumps out, probably 12 inch diameter hedge trees and smaller. I borrow the neighbors 6 foot rotary cutter once in a while to do a some ground that I don't want to mow every week and it does fine, I don't get it in really wild stuff.
For your 15 acres I would think the BX would be plenty, unless you are experienced with larger equipment then you might miss a larger unit.
If I had a bigger tractor I would have to find another place to park it. It probably would use more fuel. and it wouldn't go the places mine goes.
