BX22
Went and removed the deck on my BX22 to put and loader and BH on. I was surprised to see a layer of hydraulic oil on the deck. Looking underneath, all I could see was oil everywhere. Started her up and saw dripping from multiple places. Two hours later I had the floor pan off and saw a couple of hoses going into a sleeve, and the sleeve was saturated in oil. They turned out to be hoses from the trans to the power steering valve in the dash. Another hour of so and I had the rear wheel off and I was able to disconnect the hoses. A pinhole leak in the middle of one of the hoses. Got new hoses (local Parker store) and started the repair, which will take several days, working after my day job. Also noticed that the boot on the propeller shaft, at the trans end, was falling apart. Got a new one as well as filters, while it is apart.

This is the 4th or 5th hose that has failed. Most at the crimp fitting, but one other started leaking in the middle. It should not be too long before all of them are replaced.

Always in the shed, never been outside overnight. As for the age, 10 years old. Hoses started going at 4-5 years old. Compared to the new Parker replacements, the old ones seem to be lower quality.

The original hgses are inferior in my experience. They have nearly all failed on my BX2200. There are 4 steering hoses - change them all or you will end up doing the job twice!!

Most OEM hoses are 1-wire braid (SAE 100R1) whereas replacements custom made are usually 2-wire braid (SAE 100R2).....it helps to know what you are getting

Certainly the 1-wire braid will hold the pressures when new but it doesn't hurt to put some overkill into hose replacements for durability

In my BX2230 manual the power steering hoses are a service item after so many hour interval, can not remember the number right now.

ive replaced five on my l 2500 in the last yr-its 12 yrs old so i guess wear and tear takes its toll---carquest and napa make them up a lot cheaper then Kubota dealership sell them-just a thought-----luck

I just made a set for Kubota steering on Saturday, and another set today......both were only 3000# rated (1 wire braid) and my new ones were 5000# rated (2 wire braid) .......

Yup, when 1 hose begins to leak, replacing such followed by a "wait and see" is reasonable. However, if a second hose blows within a month or 2, then you might as well bite the bullet (it's expensive, and some non-FEL hoses can be tough to get to) and replace the whole set. At 9 years I lost 4 hoses within 3 months on my L3400 before I learned this lesson. As to original vs current hoses, Kubota has significantly upgraded the quality from 2002 when I purchased the tractor, and now - just look at the pressure ratings. If that company had not, I'd have looked for another source of hose material.
