We have several blades missing from our trans cooling fan. It may have been this way for hundreds of hours, I do not know. I would like to wait until I have obtained a skid plate to keep this from happening again before I take it all apart. I would like to just do this once.

Is it likely to cause much more damage than it already has to keep running this way a few more hours?

Or, since it is not that hot here in the NE yet, I could cut off the remaining blades to eliminate the imbalance.

What do you folks think?

Thanks so much, as always,

I don't think I would further restrict cooling by removing blades. I would replace the fan to insure cooling for the hydro is maintained to prevent damage and stay out of the woods, or at least not drive over something that could raise up and damage the fan.

When we took our BX2200 in to have some work done from neglect by a previous "owner", the dealer discovered some blades missing. He replaced them, no telling how long they were missing and so far we can tell no ill effects.

We have not seen any damage yet from having missing blades on the fans. The fans are used on many models and the worst part is the potential to overheat the transmission with the first tell tale being hydraulic oil on the floor from the breather.

When I had the floor off of my BX23 for drive line boot replacement, I started the engine and checked out the transmission fan airflow. With the engine running at mid speed, I was surprised how little air the fan actually seemed to move.
Unless it was the heat of summer, you should be able to use your tractor for most jobs without worry. I wouldn't be overly concerned until the oil gets to more than 80 degrees above ambient.
I doubt that the fan imbalance is anything to worry about. It weighs so little and is supported on a stout, short shaft...
