I was mowing a low hill at about 40 degrees incline (going up) when my BX2200 gas gauge went to way below empty ... and there it sits.

So far no amount of jiggling or addition of fuel has changed the position of the needle. Fuses are all good.

I'd welcome ideas about the cause ( float stuck seems likely).

And ... since I have a cab and ROPS ... anyway other than removing both of those to get to the sending unit wiring at the tank end? I pulled off the left hand plastic surround on the hydraulic controls and you can almost see in there, but only about 1/2" of clearance between the tank and the fender. Does the fender remove separately from the rest of the body? If so I might be able to pull the ROPS and some of the cab bolts and get the fender off by itself ?

Thanks

My BX 2200 fuel gauge has never worked right since day one. I recall it being an issue across the board, that I think came up frequently during the first few years that I owned the tractor.

As newer models came out the issue gradually faded away as far as discussion goes. There was a solution which to me was more work than I wanted to do. I forget what it was, probably replacing the sending unit, or something which required removing the fuel tank, or something like that. I just live with it.

I'll try filling the tank all the way up first. I'll be probably be making a wooden "dipstick" before I pull it all the way apart ... but it's just my nature to hate seeing things that don't work :)

My BX does that once in awhile but always comes back when I fill all the way to the top. I have heard that if a lot of moisture builds up in the fuel the resultant corrosion on metal parts causes them to stick in one position. You have to remove a lot of stuff including the seat to get at the sending unit. It is screwed to the top. I have a new tank I have never installed for that reason. Punched a hole in the existing. Patched with JB Weld 400 HRs ago and still holding. Fingers crossed.

Haven't tried filling it all the way up yet .... it's about five inches from full right now. I did notice in the parts diagram that it appears the left side fender is removable with a few bolts ... but the fuel gauge sender looks like it's located under the frame ROPs mounting plate, so that would have to be removed along with the ROPS. What a terrible design from a servicing aspect. Miss the days of big square metal tanks hung somewhere :)
