It was time to have a go at the remains of an old hawthorn tree that the wind took down a couple weeks ago. After about 2 hours with the backhoe and 20 minutes with the axe on a couple 3 or 4 inch roots...

out she came... well almost. That's a 4 foot level in the pic, the stump was about 20 in. diameter at ground level. Don't know what it weighs, but I had to make a bit of a ramp at one edge of the hole to haul it out. The hole is about 6 feet across and over 2 feet deep.
I'm gonna have to chain saw it apart to haul it back to the brush pile, The FEL wouldn't lift it as is.

I'm really impressed with this little BX24... even tho a bigger machine might have done it in an hour or less. I've got a few more of these hawthorns to do...

Another fine example of letting your tools do the work.

Done quite a few. Some bigger. Time and persistence will get it done!!
Nice job!

I've been lurking around here quite a bit since I got the BX24 last Sept.
I read with interest the cautions about heavy loads in the FEL affecting the center of gravity.
Well, when I cut up my hawthorn stump, I cut off the trunk pretty much at the dirt line & hauled it to the brush pile. I rolled the root ball (about 3' dia.) onto a logging chain, wrapped it & hooked on to the FEL. The loader wouldn't lift it, but the bucket curl did... and that's when one rear wheel came way up off the ground. Glad I still had my hand on the FEL lever. That was close !
I suppose the bucket was about 4' off the ground at that point.
Sure am glad I read about this situation... otherwise I doubt I would have reacted so quick.
Thanks guys !
