I'm thinking of getting another PTO chipper for our BX24. We had a Bearcat 70554 for a while (like the current SC5540) which weighs 450 pounds and I could lift and move it around fine.

We had to sell it a few years back and now want to replace it with a CH5540 (chipper, no shredder, but has the blower built in) and it weighs 600 pounds. This is within the BX24 spec of 661 pounds for lift capacity 24 inches behind the lift point, but I wanted to see if anyone has used their BX24/25 with a chipper that heavy and how the tractor did lifting and moving it.

Even though this class of chipper from Bearcat is listed for tractors of 25-45 PTO HP, I had no problems with the 70554/5540 chipping up to 3" material since the flywheel weight it a decent 150 pounds.

I think a BX would handle it. I have lifted things heaver than that. You may have to throw some weight in bucket to hold it down.

I have been using Jinma chipper on bx24. Weighs over 800lbs.

Needs a few concrete blocks in the FEL, and you don't want to go anywhere too fast, but it works!

I think you will be fine. The lift at the ball ends is rated @ almost 1000lbs.

Depending on how your toplink is set and how "true" you keep the parallelogram linkage "system", you dont lose much capacity (none if it is a true parallelogram) by moving the weight farther back.

I cant be positive, But I suspect that the 661# rating is with the toplink configured in a way (mounting hole and length) that deviates the MOST from a true parallolgram. Thats why so many people report being able to lift well more than the rating @ 24".

Ofcourse all of this is harder on the linkages and rear axle. But @ 600#, I think you will be fine. Its just holding the weight. Its not like something that strains things like a blade or 3PH backhoe.

I think the rated lift is what they feel is a safe amount of weight for that tractor to handle.
