My BX25 Rear PTO Shield detached and I can not re-attach it.
The shield is held in place by a spring loaded rod with a tiny pin holding it in place. The rod will not slide to the right far enough to pass through the right hole in the Rear PTO shield. Anyone know of a reason for this? Is the pin slotted or must it be in a special position?

If I get time I can look at mine in the morning, but someone else may chime in. A picture would help a lot. Does it look like any pieces are missing?

As I've never had the backhoe off it's hard to get a good look at what's going on...looks simple enough, though. If you can't slide it all the way through, all I can imagine is that you'll have to try rotating it in different positions as you try. Or, maybe it's like any other "hinge" and the female parts need to be lined up just right as you push the pin through. Maybe, also like a hinge, you could try tapping the pin lightly to get it through? Sometimes the simplest things give you the most trouble.

Not much to see! Tried all possible angles and hammer! My BX25 is new and maybe a burr exists. Tried total disassembly but rod will not come out. I even tried compressed air cleaning for grit and grease. Thought maybe there was a trick I did not know. Oh well! :(

I hope you get all these issues worked out before I need to know the solutions.:) I'm at 24 hours and surprised how quick they got on it.

The shaft that holds the pto sheild appears to be blocked by the hydro dipstick on right on mine. There is a clip on left side.I looked at mine more carefully and it appears that in order to be able to work with it, I would have to remove the hydro tranny cover that is held by 5 or 6 bolts just to be able to slide the shaft out. I don't have a burr or anything on the left side of shaft if tht helps any.

I discovered the rod is actually in the curved metal you see on both ends of the rod but wraps about 7/8 the way around the rod. By rotating the rod I was able to get the rod to move to the right. But, when I tried to put the shield in place I could not repeat the action. I will keep trying! I agree, to totally remove the rod I would have to remove the right end pin and undo all those bolts. (not going to happen!)

Finally Fixed!
I managed to re-install the rear PTO shield while doing the 100 hour service.

The key was rotating the shaft under the spring until it slid fully to the right. The spring must be in the correct position and then the shield can be held to allow the shaft to catch the right end hole in the shield, the other end is held in place by two holes and a single round metal ball under tension from the spring. The real answer is to leave the PTO shield alone while trying to use the PTO for the first time. :D
