When you don't have much level land you have to make your own. Just finished this little turnaround along my tractor driveway in a formerly overgrown wooded hillside I've been working to reclaim and terrace. It will also make a nice area to split firewood, which I store in the adjacent shed.

You might recognize my humble little Shelter Logic tractor shed...well, it withstood quite a battering this past Saturday...about 16 hours straight 50-60 mph winds, with a 71 mph blast clocked just 2 miles away...it laughs at the wind.

Unfortunately, many trees didn't fare as well, including this nearby maple. Had to use the tractor to pull down some big limbs that got hung up (maple is heavy stuff!)...one that I pulled down fell on my new turnaround.

Now, I've got 12 acres, but 11 are pretty inaccessible currently, so I'll be digging out 30-40 cubic yards of hillside and cutting a road through the one low spot along a 25 foot deep gully.

Once across I can access an old road cut by a dozer decades ago. It looks steep, but it's about a 20% grade, so it's do-able.

And my reward for all this work is I'll be able to get the tractor to the rest of my property to harvest firewood, drag out deer and cut trails to enjoy the scenery.

Yah, I know, I ask a lot of my little BX.
