My new BX25D is <2 months old and has just under 80 hours.. Been working her pretty hard.. Yes I knew the risk of shredding the fan but after crawling under the tractor and evaluating the stock skid plate I made the call that it would be a 1 in 1000 stick that found it's way in there.. So opted for the risk..

In her 80 hours she has pushed up all of the trees and brush from a 2.5 acre clearing project, climbed mounds of brush, dug out ~20-25 stumps, drug a 5ft Landscape Rake for days collecting small debris, and mowed my old mans 5 acre place several times with the 60"mmm, all without incident.. Was beginning to think that my choice of risk over protection was the right call until Sunday.. Hooked up to the 4' Rotary Cutter and rode around the corner to help my bro-in-law knock down a couple of acres of 2-3 month growth.. On the last pass a little oak limb won the lottery and shredded the fan.. Crap.. Gamble didn't pay.. Ordered the fan ($12), it'll be here tomorrow..

Did the tear down work today, and was a little apprehensive, even being fairly mechanically inclined, after reading a few posts regarding the project... The fear was wasted energy.. This is a project that anyone with even mild mechanical ability can complete.. The tear down and removal took my bro and I a little over an hour... She'll go back together tomorrow evening..

:confused3: And yes... The skid plate is on the way.. LOL

Well I am sorry to hear but it makes me feel a lot better about my investment of a front/rear skid plate I just ordered for my new BX25D. I would also love pictures of some of the work you did. Sounds like the same big mess that I have after an excavator just cleared about a wooded acre on my property hence the need for me to buy a my BX! Good luck on the repair!

I would also like to see some pics of this. I have the FSM for my BX2230 and it sure looks like it would take a lot longer than an hour to get to that fan.

Sorry Guys... Got to banging away on bolting the little guy back together and forgot to take the pics.. I can tell you that re-assembly by yourself is much more challenging than dis-assembly with two decent grease monkeys.. In particular, moving the engine back onto the engine mounts while maintaining alignment on the shaft couple at the HST is a bit of a turkey.. Then replacing the sheet metal without scratching it is kinda tricky.. In the end she is all back together and even has a new set of 4ea. 5gang LED Worklights + a BXpanded Skidplate.. Worked her all weekend long.. A quicky guide on disassembly / reassembly to get to the fan:

1. Remove hood + Engine Cowl + Hood Mount Bracket (Big one that bolts frame)
2. Remove battery cover below steering wheel and Plastic shroud under batery, above floor pan.
3. Remove HST Pedals (2 bolts under floor Panel)
4. Remove Rubber Foor Pan Mat
5. Remove 6 Bolts reatining floorpan and lift out
6. Remove Rops Bar (unplug blinkers first)
7. Remove the two bolts from rear hand grabs on rear fender wells (fronts can stay in)
8. Remove rubber handles from all PTO and Driveline Controls
9. Remove Knobs from PTO Height and Speed Control
10. Remove Seat (one or two clips and tow sensor plugs)
11. Unplug Taillights and remove fuel cap.
12. Remove rear fender tin
13. Remove top nuts from the four engine mounts (both on right side have ground straps that must be replaced)
14. Lift engine with Jack (or two strong backs) and slide forward approx 1-1.5"
15. Remove "C" clip from ID of front of shaft coupler that HST fan is bolted to.
16. Remove bolt behind fan securing coupler to splines of HST Input Shaft.
17. Slide Coupler down shaft (springloaded with ~1" of play) towards engine and disengage from HST input shaft.
18. Slide coupler rearward and disengage from power transfer shaft (keep your hand under the coupling so ya dont drop the 4 primary drive ball bearings).
19. Replace the fan on the coupler (2 bolts).
20. Grease everything up and reverse the process...

When you have it apart is is extremely convenient to go ahead and replace the underfloor fuel filter, the underhood fuel filter, oil filter, etc..

That doesn't sound too hard... I appreciate you posting this. The FSM would have you believe it's an all day job for an experienced mechanic!

The Japanese to English translation in the FSM can be humorous at times. ;)

If you have it apart also check the clamp for the under floor fuel filter as mine had the captive nut on the bottom side of the clamp with the bolt on the top side against the floor, so it got flipped for easier access from underneath.
