I have a belly mower deck for my finish cutting and a Brush Hog (rotary mower) to do under my trees. I am new to all this and today was the first time using the Brush Hog. I have watched videos on you tube from Merrick's and another guy who does a bunch of videos.

Question 1. Is there a way to keep the belly deck high and only lower the 3 point hitch so just the Brush Hog goes down? I do know how to just turn on the rear PTO so only it is running. Hoping I don't have to remove the belly mower when I run the Brush Hog.

Question 2. The videos I have watched show a stop nut to be able to set the height of the Brush Hog so you can easily get it to the same height after raising it. There does not seem to be any such feature on my BX2680. Is there a way to do that?

Question 3. The owners manual is not real clear on what the little lock lever on the right side between the hydraulic lift and the FEL controller does. I also cannot ever seem to get it onto the lock position. Any help on that lever?

Did you not get an owners manual? Yes, you can "pin" the mid mowing deck in the up position, raise it all the way and then turn the knob near between you legs.
The 3 ph lever lifts till you release it and the BX does not have position control other than it will always come back to the uppermost position when you hold it till it stops coming up. You can stop it in any position in between by releasing the lever. You can make adjustments on the upper arm and attachment points on your rotary mower to determine its uppermost position.
Not sure what your talking about unless its the 2wd 4wd lever and if so it can be coaxed into the different positions by pushing/pulling it while letting the BX move a bit.

yes I have an owners manual but it does not seem to cover the questions I asked. There are two knobs below the seat. One is a cutting height adjustment knob and the other is called "3-point hitch lowering speed knob" which is effectively a hydraulics bleed valve. That knob controls the lowering speed of both the belly deck and the 3 point hitch. Do not see anything to separate the function.

The question 3 deals with this:

Re-reading this it seems it is only to prevent the working of the hydraulics lever. I still can't seem to get it into the lock position though.

1. Raise the mower deck all the way up with 3pt lever, this will take the weight off the mower deck height knob near your feet. Turn the knob around to Top and lower the deck, it should be locked in the far up position. That said I think they put my mower height knob on wrong, I have to turn mine past Top 1 click to 0 (zero) that's the full up position on mine (face palm). Also my height knob only turns in one direction, from 0 to 4 say and not back the other way from 4 to 3 to 2.

3. That lock lever is supposed to lock the FEL controller in place so it can't move. Mine also will not move back and over to the unlock position, it moves about half way and stops. Oddly I have a picture of the tractor where its in the fully unlocked position so something is amiss up under the fender. Mine will move down and left to the fully locked position.

I did some playing around and did find exactly what you described about the Cutting Height Adjustment dial. I tested it and it did work. Thanks for that.

I talked to someone local and they described the same thing about the FEL lock. The description of the lock is that it only prevents the controller from working so you can't "accidently" lower the FEL. So I am not sure it is something for me to worry about anyway.

Thanks for the replies to all.

The FEL lock is meant so that if you are working on rough grounds that you don't accidentally bump the controls.

Never ever stand or put your body under a raised loader, nor keep it up. I see so many places do this selling tractors and it makes me a nervous wreck! I can only imagine a child or person getting squashed or hurt from a falling bucket.
