I hope I haven't made a mistake! I just purchased a used land pride rb2596 (rear blade). Can the JD 3720 handle the land pride rb2596?

Thanks!

The specs for the RB2596 says it's for 25 - 60 hp tractors and weighs 425 lbs so you are ok there. The 96" width may or may not be ok depending on what you are doing with the blade. I can see getting a big bite of snow or dirt and having difficulty moving it. But you can work with smaller bites if need be. I would have opted for a shorter blade like 66" or 72" for the 3720. Now that you bought the 96" blade, try it out and see how it works for your application.

I know -- I had my eye on a smaller one, but someone bought it before I could get there -- and a good used one is hard to come by.

Familiarize yourself with the 3720 position control capabilities and limitations

Greg: you want to elaborate a little for a beginner?

I think you went a little too big. I run a RB3584 Land Pride on my Grand L3540 which weighs in a bit more then your 3720 and i would not want to plow snow or level dirt with a bigger back blade, maybe you can sell it and buy a 72" or 84" good luck.

Sure, but details are in your 3720 operating manual. Position control is sorta half way to the draft control feature my previous two tractors had. On them, there was a 2nd lift lever that would control how deep a ground engaging implement would "dig". When the implement began to exceed the preset depth, the hydraulics would automatically lift the implement back to the desired working depth.

With position control, the slot for the lever is usually numbered (1 to 6 in our case I think), with 1 being all the way down and 6 being all the way up. Note also that there's a little stop device that can be set to prevent the lever from being pushed below a certain number. Rather than just push the lever all the way to 1 and suffer the consequences, experiment with which number gives you the maximum depth you want to scrape. Then set the little stop device at the number. If it happens to be 2.5, move the stop device there. You can still raise the hitch, but 2.5 should be as far as you can lower it. And even if the blade tries to dig deeper - in theory - position control should keep the lift arms at the 2.5 position. The hitch stops at that point and the lever stays where you left it. At least that's what the book suggests. Plus, after you raise the blade - the little stop device makes it much easier to lower it back to the same working height again.

Position control is not as effective as actual draft control, and I'm disappointed that a $40k tractor doesn't have draft control. But - when used in the appropriate situations - it can help keep that heavy 8' blade from digging too deep and stopping your tractor in it's tracks.

I gotcha Greg! And I've used that with my box blade. Thank you.

IMO a 96" blade is way to big for a 3x20 series. I have an 84" on the back of a 3120 and although it has the power to pull it, it is hard to grade because when you look at your front tire for an approximate guess of where the back blade is you have to add a couple feet and it makes it incredibly difficult. I think my 84" is to big so I wouldn't even think of a 96"
