I bought this tedder last week from a local used tractor\equipment dealer. It could use a new paint job, but appears to be okay mechanically. I have not located any markings indicating who the manufacturer is. Can anyone ID who made this tedder?

Thanks!

Don't know who made it.I would like to share with you what little I do know about them.As you probably know most of those were draw bar pulled and of course required longer pto shaft. Some of other early models were powered on ends by belts.I see yours has gearbox w/shafts.A lot of those smaller units used simular parts(like when rebuilding a disc harrow/b-hog gear box)etc. Its just a wild guess please don't quote me on it but to me that tedder looks like a Sitrex.Which I believe they are made in Italy like a Tonutti which of course since I don't know it could be also.
Its nobodys business what you paid for it and I'am not asking, but those things(tedders) are pricey.Congrats somehow I have a feeling you got a good find there at a great price.Looks to be in great shape.

I would say that it is a Duetz Fahr, possibly a KH20 (looks like someone may have taken a tow behind one and converted it to a 3 point unit), it looks similar to the KH40 we used to have.
Look at the gearboxes and the tines on the rotors and compare them to this one: http://www.traktorpool.es/media/7380/1177380/241837/Fahr-KH-20-241837.jpg

Can you post closeups of the outer gearboxes?

Thanks

Thanks to both of your for your replies. Although this may be a Sitrex, it appears to be a heavier build than the new Sitrex units I've seen. Bullbreaker, I have no hesitation at all to disclose the purchase price: $1200. This may seem a little high to some of you, but it is less than half of what a new one costs. Aczlan, I've not yet checked the KH40 link you included, but will this evening. Also, I will post some pics of the outer gear boxes. This may be a modified tow behind, but I do not see any cuts or welds that do not look factory. It is hard to find new three-point hitch tedders around here; seems that most are going with the tow behind models. We like the three point models because it takes less space to turn around at the end of rows, which is important in the foothills area where we live.

Thanks again!

The KH40 we had was a towed unit, but the arms were bolted onto the "main body" of the unit at about the same places where the arms bolt onto your unit. As such, the 3 point frame could have been added after the fact and there wouldn't be any odd welds to tell the tale.

We had a similar dilemma, but ended up going with a Enrossi 4 basket towed unit with hydro lift (the outer baskets lift up). It will let us turn around just about as tight as the Kubota L3830 wants to turn.

I recently got a similar tedder, albeit a bit older, for free because it had a broken wheel spindle. Haven't been able to locate a new spindle yet, but the old one I welded up is holding for now. Don't know the brand of your, or mine, but they are very similar. There are many different small tedders that come from Italy sold under many different names. A lot of the parts are interchangeable from what I have seen so far.

For those who were wondering, it came from the factory as a 3pt hitch model. They are not as popular, but function as well or better than a drawn type IMO. I like that I can lift mine up when going over rough spots or when making sharp turns in smaller fields.

Verticaltrx,

Thanks for the info. I agree with you that, although not as popular, the 3 point hitch tedders are better in smaller fields. A little more trouble to hook-up, but worth the trouble.
