Right between a "hard whack" and a "light whack."

Yea sure, a firm wack will leave a clear indentation in soft wood (pine) but not 1/8 inch plate.

A lite tap will break non tempered glass, but won't chip car paint.

So will a firm whack bounce off oak? That's about twice the Janka rating.
And is a rap between a tap and a whack? :)
Where is an online source further defining this use of force on material?

Years ago I wrote the F350 story and people got incensed about my terminology.

Use your judgment since you don’t want to damage the starter. My best guess would be like driving a 12 penny nail with 16 oz hammer.
