I agree with you TomSeller, but I don't use that set up for anything but decent sized limbs. If I've got something big I chain it to my 4850. I've got 20 weights across the front of the 4850.

i do it the same way as that pic but i rap a chain under the log so im pulling with the hitch and only lifting the log with the 3ph i dont like to pull with the 3ph also it will keep the front end down more.
Yes, the exact same setup with a chain added from the log butt to the clevis would be perfect. Lots of extra weight on the rears but pulling from the drawbar. Tune the weight transfer and tip limiting point by changing the initial chain slack.

There are clevis grab hooks to fit on the drawbar. With one of them you can use any reasonable length choker chain and tailor its working length a link at a time. --Even tho 1/4" grade 70 chain would be fine for your tractor you may need 5/16" in order to be compatible with the size of the clevis grab hook. -- For pull you want a little slack to start - just inches. Then as you move ahead the lift tong will swing back as the log resists, until the choker tautens. Then you are pulling from the drawbar. Experiment with initial slack til you like it. Take care.I'm new to tractors and using chains. What type of chain should I use...a choker chain? I assume a choker chain has a slip hook?
What is the ideal chain length and do I make my own chain or are they available to purchase?
How is the chain fastened to the clevis and do I fasten the log up close to the clevis or leave a fair amount of slack?
