Can somebody tell DOD to buy helicopters that work?

C130s have been towing Blackhawks over my house all day trying to get them started. Must be sticks since I've heard you can't pull start automatics.

My son in law used to fly KC130Js for the Marine Corps. Escorting Ospreys drove him crazy.

He flies for a major freight carrier now, the aircraft are far more reliable.

I wouldn't think they would be re-fueling over neighborhoods. We normally did it over water or uninhabited areas.

I guess you have never been to Lower Uncton?

They may be training, not actually transferring fuel. They have a 1200 NM range.

We have more water and uninhabited areas than anything else, but we also have three MAJOR bases not too far distant.

Has to be training since they do it several times a year and all day each time.

You wouldn’t believe that 2 helicopters could push a c130.

I think back in the 80s I was watching a graduation ceremony for C130 pilots from Pope Air Force base?

They were doing what I guess is called touch and go. They Kinda land but keep going and take off again right away.

One plane belly flopped and was destroyed, pretty dramatic. Not sure about the pilot etc.

Right after Vietnam Nam I tried to get into flight school. I had just graduated college but the Air Force, navy, marines were full up, trying to get rid of pilots.

The Army helicopter program was available and I got this close to becoming a pilot.

I flunked an bizarre aptitude test so badly they made me take it again. The shrink came and diagnosed me with what they now call dyslexia. Back then it was called dumb ***. Used to take me a weekend to balance the check book but.....It balanced!

The recruiter, who is on commission, begged me to join the navigation school because I was good in math. He promised, off the record, I would learn to fly, wink and a nod. All my buddies who had just returned from the nam said....”don’t believe a word they say, get everything in writing.

I learned to deal with it, went back to school, graduated in an engineering program with honors in science and math. Once you know you got it you can deal with it but......... never ask me which way is up!

I wanted to be a helicopter pilot flying skiers deep into the back country.

I went into Avionics. During Tech School I took a few lessons on base and got a few hours in a Cessna 150. Let's just say getting one off the ground is a whole lot easier than getting one back on the ground (in one piece).

I’ve always heard it is good practice to not fly in aircraft that have the wings moving faster than the fuselage.

We live near JBLM and get both helicopters and heavy transport aircraft, but never have seen them doing aerial refueling.
