Where are you located??

Location does make a difference in pricing things like this.

I wont go as far as ken, but I do think $500 is a bit much.

I kinda make a hobbie of buying used 3PH implements at good prices. Some need extensive repair, others just need fresh paint. But I have always made money and it keeps me busy in the shop. So in my area, I do have a pretty good Idea of what things are worth.

And while that does seem to have some extensive repairs, they do look pretty sound. And bushhog gearboxes are tough. And it is indeed an SQ60 Bushhog brand. I think the seller is fooling himself with the JD green colors and associating that with $$$.

But that bushhog, looks to be in pretty decient shape otherwise, I would say $300-$350 as a fair price. $150 is too low. Especially when you browse C-list in my area and see what kind of bushhog you can get for that kind of money. $150 will only buy an old rusty hunk that probabally looked like that one did before the repairs and fresh paint. I buy these $100-150 bushhogs from time to time and repair them in similar fashion to that one. And I usually have no trouble getting $300-$350.

And to answer your question, If you can agree on a price, your 40HP tractor should have no trouble with it at all. But it is a light-medium duty cutter. There are FAR heavier and beefier 6' cutters out there, but there are also lighter cheaper ones as well. As long as you dont abuse it and try to mow over 2-3" trees regularly, it should serve you well.

I'm in RI. I've been looking for a deal on a rotary cutter and this is the first one that I think I've come across. Maybe i'll offer $300.

I think that would be fair. Especially if you have been looking for awhile and this is the best you have came across. But I wouldn't be afraid of that cutter even for $350, but I dont think I'd go much more than that If I were you:thumbsup:

Check to see if there is oil or gun grease in the gearbox. If it is gun grease, the seals are shot. Ken Sweet

Personally, I'd pass on this cutter.

The seller tried to pass off a Bush Hog brand for a Deere brand. Not that Deere cutters are any better then Bush Hog...my cutter is a Land Pride, so I have no dog in this fight.

But the point is, the seller is fraudulently representing the cutter to sell it. If he's willing to do that...what else? I mean, the green paint is one thing and could be explained as that's what he had on hand...but those Deere labels are no accident. Not only was that purposeful, it might even be illegal.

So, BimmerPower...I suggest you walk away from this fraud.

...It has new blades and a new stump jumper that was installed at the dealer...
The gearbox most likely took a bad hit, too. I'm with Roy on this, not sure this guy is pulling a fast one or not...

I disagree. I dont think the seller is trying to be mis-leading. Actually it doesnt even sound like the seller used the bushhog. It sounds like it just came with his tractor and he dont need it.

"completely gone through" by the dealer. Not sure if the dealer put the stickers on there? but I dont see any problem wih that either. Unless the seller actually listed the ad as a "john deere" brand cutter. If the pic is to only mention of deere, I dont think that is fraudually representing it, because it clearley says Bushhog TOO.

Heck, a lot of cutters around here that sell for ~150-200 range have been repainted several times, and have no identification whatsoever. At least that one looks good, and is of bushhog brand. But that is just my Opinion though. I know around here, that cutter, as it is now, would not last on c-list if someone advertised it for 300-350.

I'd steer clear from that b-hog if it were me. ;)
In your about me you don't state where your located.
Maybe you could call or pm Ken Sweet and get a quote on a Hawkline.
Lots a bang for buck(IMHO). I believe there like the old INTN'L or WAC(Ohio)stuff.
Also have you priced a King Krutter at local TSC. ? :D
(just a play on words-you KK folks don't take it personal)

I do have problem with someone (dealer, seller or whoever) putting Deere stickers on a non-Deere product. It's not that I'm a Deere snob...I'm not. But Deere has a reputation of very good quality equipment (even when that reputation may not be deserved) and a casual buyer would see those very noticeable labels...not the embossed "Bush Hog" logo on the gearbox.
I really do believe this is an attempt to mislead a buyer.

But disagreeing me is fine...my wife does it continuously, so I'm used to it.
