So I think I have narrowed my choices down to the XJ2025 or the MT125. It would mostly be used for around the house digging, leveling ground, fence posts, scraping, and trenching.

I have been price shopping and the lowest I found on the MT125 TLB was $15,400 plus MMM for $1600 but when I went to the local dealer I sat on the XJ2025 and it got me thinking about going a little bit bigger. I do already have a mower to use so if I got the XJ I dont think I would mow with it due to the weight and having to take off the backhoe for the MMM. Pricing for the XJ2025 on a TLB was $18,200 +Box blade and Auger for $1200.

What I am wondering is, what is the biggest difference in capability for those 2 tractors to justify a $3k jump in price? Do those of you with the MT125 wish you would have gone up a little in size?

That's a tough call.... I had my 125 for 2 years and 200 hours. Great little machine. Did a LOT of work with it, including doing a full septic system and grading an old abused gravel road. Used it to mow almost 10 acres (only a couple of times) with a 72" finish mower. It never disappointed me.

Then I got a bug that I would need a bigger tractor for some upcoming bigger jobs..... So I sold the 125 TLB and purchased an XG3025 TLB. Does it have more "umph" ? Yep sure does... The hydraulic flow is almost double the 125's flow, so much higher capacities. Comes in handy at times. Can I lift more weight/ quantity? Yep. Can I get into tight places like the 125? No. Do I now leave track marks / ruts? Sure do.

Do I regret getting the bigger tractor? No. Do I sometimes miss the little MT125? More often than I thought I would. I couldn't afford to have both, so the bigger tractor was a no brainer, one could always use a bigger tractor.

For the prices you were quoting, look into the new MT225e. Same HP, but much greater capability. The 225 can't accept a MMM, so probably not good for Mowing a small yard / area.

I know I didn't answer your question about the XJ2025 cost difference. It is bigger, little more capacities, bigger tires, little heavier. Is it worth $3K more? IMHO no. For around $3K to $3500 more, you should be able to get into an MT225.

I have heard the phrase here "buy once, cry once". I was fortunate to be able to sell my MT125 for just a little less than what I paid for it. That was why I was able to purchase the 3025. If I was able to get the 3025 initially, that would have been my choice.

Good luck in your search / purchase. Keep us posted.

I know this is an older post (I'm a new LS owner, first compact tractor too), but I didn't find these two models to be similar at all. Compact vs. Sub, no? Am I confusing these two or did something change since 2019?

I went with the XJ2025 over the MT125 because it has over 250lbs more loader lift, and more than 500lbs of 3pt lift. It was about $3500 more, but that difference in lift seemed significant enough especially since I plan to use the loader w/ grapple a lot to clear woods. I was comparing the XJ2025 to the MT225 and other brands 25HP Compacts with the larger rear tire. Price & performance, the XJ2025 seems to be one of the best bangs for the buck out there.

I had the identical decision to make. I went with the XJ 2025H for 1 big reason: The SSQA loader. I believe the loader lift capacity is larger as well. I have 5' & 6' buckets I use as well as forks. I am more than pleased. Good Luck.
