I have a 2004 JD 4110 with a 60" MMM, 59" snow blower, and a shop built PTO vacuum. I like to update every so often just to stay current and of course have shiny new reliable equipment. The problem is I have no idea what would do a better job with the implements I have by trading / selling my current version for a new model number. Currently I have 340 hours on the tractor and it performs very well. I have a newer large NH for the big jobs / back hoe work. If I don't purchase something soon someone will go furniture shopping and replace items that are far newer and just as expensive. Good Will will be the only winner in this senereo.

It's only money go ahead and buy a new tractor like you said shiny and new don't get no better than that!!:D
Almost forgot remember to buy one big enough to sleep in....once the boss gets wind of what your up to might be the only safe place for you to close your eyes at night.

I'm having a smaller version of your problem. Unfortunately my Craftsman Garden Tractor that everyone, including the Deere store, told me would fall apart in 3 or 4 years has not done so yet. Since it is only used for trimming under a few trees and around hedges and pulling a mulch cart, it will probably outlast me. I have no real excuse to buy that new diesel X700 series Lawn Tractor that looks so nice.

I think people buy new tractors too often, same for furniture. I take pride in taking care of things and getting my money's worth.

A "new" tractor is 1 day "old" the next morning.

You could always go check out some new Kubota tractors. They are more expensive so they must be better... right? :licking:

Probably shouldnt. It is the older tractors that offer the more versatile platforms. Newer tractors delete useful features that people have lost sight of the advantage provided. Saves a little money then costs like crazy to get it back with an add on or a several step upgrade..

I agree with this in most cases, I use to impulse buy everything. I hope to get alot more use out of everything now with good maintenance and care. Just sold my 40 year old 820 because I didn't use it much but it should last the new owner for many years. Tractors don't need to be changed out often if they are correct size and features just use them.

Reliable? You might be at 5% of the predicted useful life of the tractor. I do not have nearly the mad money I like but I guess I could buy a new one. I certainly would not be buying a new tractor even though mine has high hours of 545. For me reliable would be building a garage for the tractor, maybe replacing the dry rotting rear tires, replacing the 6-8 remaining hoses that have not split from dry rot, and splitting the transmission to grease the input shafts. Then my 15 year old tractor would last another 40+ years until I die. I am only 53 so there is a fair chance my tractor will out live me if I can get it out of the weather.

Well you can always stop be your favorite dealership and just take a look at the possibilities!! :D If the salesman is worth his salt he'll be able to come up with a couple of excellent ideas about your NEED for a new tractor!! Or you could just strike a bargain with SWMBO to forgo both purchases and use the savings to go on a trip of your lifetime while you can still enjoy it.

Well, so far it was new hardwood floors and a change out of the porcelain floor tile. How was I supposed to know it was the wrong color ten years ago ? I can feel granite countertops looming in my future. We only have four Corvettes ... maybe just one more as we sold the RTV and there is an open space.
