Case 585 clutch replacement-part question

Hello,
Last time I was on here it was about my Branson...this time it's about my old girl, the case 585.

She is going into the shop with a local guy who will perform a clutch replacement. He's a friend so he's willing to let me supply the parts. I'd like to take up as little space as possible in his shop and time so I wanted to see if there is any way to identify which clutch part kit I would need? There are clutch kits I was going to purchase but one place has 5 different ones.

Anyway to know before splitting it? I just know it's going to have to sit split in his shop while I wait for the parts and feel bad.
I have the serial number but the case parts SN lookup isnt finding it?

I don't know what the five parts would be. When I do a clutch in a car I look for clutch plate, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing. You may not wish to pay for a new pressure plate but there are companies which rebuild them for older tractors.

It seems that there could be different clutch diameters, spline counts, and a hub (or something) diameter...... I was on tractor parts ASAP searching by clutch kits and there are 5 different ones available. I called and they were unable to help unless I had it split and looked. They cant tell off a model and serial, which is what I hoped for.
I cant remember the year but will find it. I just know it's not new.

Not sure about the 585 but I bought a new 584 and the dealer said the stock IH clutches will not hold up. I had it split under warranty for a covered shifter upgrade and paid a few bucks to have the clutch replaced with a better one. I believe from Hy-Capacity if I remember right.

Look like you need to know what kind of throwout bearing it has:

Given the different options your friend may be stuck with your tractor in his shop until parts are removed and measured and new ones ordered.

You can order a clutch kit, my memory might be bad but a 585 could have a 11" or a 12" clutch as option. Might like to know that before ordering.

Thank you all so much for input. I forgot I posted this and I am playback at it. My guy did tear it apart so its split in his shop... I have pics but no stock pics match up but I'm not sure that it would matter if I
We replace the whole get up.
It is 11", 10spline.

I just really would like to get the right one the 1st time but I dont have anyone to call and ask because it is older and we got it used with farm. I'm just not sure who to go to typically except here

If it's a Case/IH 585, and not an International 585, then this should be the correct parts book for your tractor. Follow this link to the Case/IH online parts store. I already have it to the 585 function groups. Select "power train" in the menu at left. Clutches are the first items listed. Case IH Parts for Case IH Tractors, Case IH Combines, Case IH Tractors, Case IH Manuals, Case IH Parts

There should be a part number in the cast iron portion of the pressure plate, that you can match up with, in that parts list. If you find a match, copy and paste that number to a good search engine (I prefer Google looking for parts) Note, there will be a superceded part number on most, try both and see if you get the same results. Parts that have an updated part number, will be signified by a exclamation mark, with a blue background. If you click on the part number in the parts list, it will appear in another window. IF you want to check the Case/IH dealer price, there is a small block in the upper right corner that says"check price. Select a local dealer, in the next window that pops up. Then, you have something to compare to, if you want to look for aftermarket kits/prices.

You'll probably get a lot of hits,with different prices, so you can shop, until you drop. Hope this helps..!!
