Case-IH DX33 PTO not staying in gear.

Good day all!
Has anyone on here had a DX33 PTO not wanting to stay engaged? Drops out immediately. Runs fine without mower attached. Had this issue a couple years and finally its bad enough the father in law cant keep it in with a bungy cord anymore....ya Would it be a linkage adjustment issue or will i be diving deeper? Thank you.

Could be the rollpun through the bellcrank is worn, not allowing the PTO to engage fully.
Also could be the detent spring/ball is worn or broken.

The hand lever turns a small shift lever shaft that goes through the transmission case. It is common that the shift lever shaft going through the case has been rusting for some time limiting how far it moves. Then, being that the gears are not fully engaged, they want to pop out hence the need for the bungy cord. You can spray penetrating spray where those shift shafts enter the case and work them back and forth. You need that gear to fully engage.

If that simple fix doesn't work, then there are many parts inside that could be the cause like shift forks, roll pins, shift lever, gears, etc.

Yes, it could be any/all of the above. Experience tells me if the shift lever "feels" right, and one can feel the detents for both neutral and "engaged" then it's not roll pin or shift linkage related. Much more likely it's some chewed up gears on the inside. I've seen and repaired far more of that problem than any roll pins or shift forks.

It's not all that difficult to repair once the lift housing has been removed. The shafts involved will come out the back, and the gears will come out through the top. It was much easier on the older tractors when tinware was tinware. You could remove the seat and the lift housing was right there looking at you. Then they "improved" thing adding all the plastic fenders, panels, and all that. Not so simple any more.

I will remove the seat tonight after work and look for the lift housing plus look to see if everything is free and clear on the linkage.

TC34DA Rear PTO keeps disengaging

My TC34DA has 900 hrs on it. This year noticed the rear PTO disengages. RPM stays steady and the PTO handle kicks out of detent and moves forward about an inch. Reengages just fine amd does it again about 20 minutes later while mowing with landpride 72 inch finish mower. Anyone ever...

My pto lever dosnt want to stay forward when under load. With nothing attached to the tractor it works as it should. I removed seat and fender and looks like the lever works as it should there too

I think you're missing the point. Your problem Isn't with the shift linkage. It's in here.

Thank you. I do agree that it seems inside the transmission.

I am looking to converse on how to fix it. Should i assume that i need to remove both fenders and work toward draining the oil from the transmission and get the top cover off? or is the problem area accessible somehow else?

Please confirm by disconnecting the linkage and checking that both detents are being met before digging into the tranny.
