Does anyone else use a 279 for forestry mulching? We have one that we use for our smaller projects and it does pretty well. It cant compete with the bigger machines due to the obvious lack of HP but does ok in the right environment. Here's some video of us clearing out some underbrush.

I think the key to a smaller machines success is having the cimaf head attached to it. For the conditions I work in I don't think I'll ever buy another carbide head again. Let me know what you guys think about it.

Glad you like your Cimaf.
Lots of folks in your area are in love with the Cimaf and hate carbides.
I run a Fecon with double carbides and it is the best I have seen or used.
Of course I do forestry prescription mastication not land clearing and some folks don't understand the difference.

I'm one of those people who don't know the difference.

Where are carbides better than regular teeth? I've heard that regular (hardened steel, I imagine) teeth cut faster as long as you stay in wood, but dull faster if you are into the soil, let alone rocks and stones.

I'm considering switching from a flail mower head on a Kabota KX080 excavator to a fixed tooth head of some sort. My goal is clearing standing brush and saplings. I have no need to mulch right into the ground, but there are also lots of rocks to accidentally contact.

I'd welcome any advice.

If you have rocks carbides are better but less efficient . If rocks are not a big deal the cimaf or gyro track head is the way to go. cost carbide 120-140
cimaf or gyro trac 35-45

Fecon Cem 36 can use both types and also has rock teeth that are bullet proof
