Can you reroute the pull chain? Add a little lube to help or maybe reposition the switch by drilling a new hole ?
That's what I have done temporarily. chain is just hanging out over the outer edge of the glass bowl. looks silly and will eventually damage the glass bowl, but it's the only way it will work for now. new hole idea is good. i'll look and see if that's possible. lube? what kind?

Sad to say it but i don't own a digital camera. if i plan ahead i can borrow my son's camera, but he lives quite a distance away. here is the best picture i could find online. same photo as on the box. wrong color but right model. notice that they do not show the pull chains. now i know why.

On 3 of my Hunter fans the chain for the light comes out of the final that holds the glass on.

I'm pretty sure I have the same fan at home. I'll look when I get home tonight. Mine is wired so the light doesn't have a pull chain - it comes on with the wall switch. The fan's chain comes out of the middle of the finial at the bottom. I'll look tonight to see how it's routed.

Actual hunter model number in correct color is 20418. the light pull chain comes out the middle of the metal bottom piece (name?) and that cannot be changed from what I can tell. wouldn't help anyway. fan pull chain exits through the same metal bottom piece but offset by about 3/4" on same side as fan switch sits above.

I had a fan like that at my old place, but with a four bulb/globe light kit. It may be less annoying to chnage just the light kit, than the whole fan.....but it would be more costly. One thing you could look for is that fan with a different light kit. Buy the whole thing, change the light kit out and take parts from new fan, put in box for your fan with your old light kit and return?

It may not be the most moral thing to do to some, but it would require far less disassembly and could solve the problem with the poor pull chain design.

Not my style to go switching parts but it is a good idea to ask if a different light kit is available. i suppose it would have to be hunter also to match color and texture, etc. it's worth another trip back to home depot to find out. i want to take a much closer look at the fan display anyway to see if the fan switch nut is the same on all of them and also find out if they sell smoother replacements.

The easiest solution at this point would be an add-on wireless RF remote. I installed half a dozen fans in our current house much the same as yours (most are Hunters but different models). The only fans I didn't add remotes to are one in the living room that has a built in remote & two that have too small a base to accept the remote unit (I could have put the remotes in the attic I guess). These make the chain problem a moot point. I used the Hampton Bay remotes & they all work correctly & are still on their original batteries (almost 4 years old).

My GF's office fan pull switch failed in the full-speed position. Slapped an extra remote on it & she now has speed control again! MUCH cheaper than replacing the fan, & much easier than replacing the switch!

Pulled the globe on my Hunter & I agree, that pull chain routing (comes out of the unit on the side, about 2" off center, goes through a plate with a nylon bushing about 1/2" off center to keep it away from the bulbs, then through the hole on the globe center about 1" off center) is hokey, but it's something I've never had to deal with because of the remotes!

Attached is pic of the remote, which sits in it's hanger below the light switch & exhaust fan control.

I'm still amazed that you could tell that the woman from the company that you talked to on the phone was fat. You have one of those video phones, or are you just another one of those obnoxious Maine Pains.
