Change shifter boots on 1970 820 3 cyl

Trying to change the shifter boots, I am holding the shifter shaft with a wrench so the knobs on both just spin and spin but not coming off..what's the remedy? This is the german made 1970 3 cyl tractor. Thx

If gearshift lever knobs won't come off of lever your next option is remove retaining ring(item 7) & pull lever out of shift cover then install boot.

Try warming the knobs up with a heat gun.

Been my experience that most are a push on, friction fit. Try pulling harder and twisting at the same time.

IIRC the JD ones are screwed on. Check if new ones are available

So, there is no depiction of the shift pattern like my Kubota's have on them then? Mine screw on and a thin jam nut secures them in the correct orientation.

That's odd your M9000 gearshift knob has a thin locknut under the knob as no locknut is listed in M9000 parts catalog under either gearshift knob.

Both of them came that way, if in the parts breakdown or not is irrevelant.
