I am a newbie to TractorByNet. I grew up on a farm long time ago but enjoy the work I can get done around my little 11 acre piece of paradise here in Vermont with a tractor. I own a 2003 Kubota L3010 that I use occasionally for things I couldn't do otherwise so it doesn't get the hours of a true ag tractor. Primarily used for winching out wood, snow-blowing, and moving rocks and bolder.
I changed the front axle fluid (hydraulic) at 400 hours. Now at approximately 600 hours the right front axle seal started leaking and am in the process of repairing it (almost done), I am thinking of converting to 80-90 gear oil (only about five qt capacity) as Kubota states is okay . The question I have is do I have to flush the axle and if so is once enough? I know there will be a small amount of hydraulic fluid left in one hub that I did not change the oil on, maybe a half to one cup or so. Also, how many hours in between flushes?
My reasoning for converting I have read the seals are less likely to start leaking with the thicker oil and of course it is less expensive than UDH2. I would rather not have to replace the seal on the other wheel. Any other suggestions or comments will be much appreciated.
