Changing oil in injector pump-FarmPro 2420

I am past due to change the oil in the injector pump on my 20 hp 2 cyl,
FarmPro 2420. I believe I need to remove at least one or is it two bolts from the bottom of the pump housing to drain the old fluid. Is this correct? Then when I refill it; where do I put the new oil in? Is it the spring-loaded cap for the primer pump that I remove and then pour the new oil in there?

Sorry for the basic questions but I am new to diesel engines (and Chinese tractors!!)

The oil will drain from teh botom of the governor portion of the inj. pump at its lowest point. you can fill it by removing the vented cap, behind the throttle lever in your picture, on the top of the governor housing.

Bluechip and Willl, Many thanks for your response! Now I know exactly what to do and even what size socket or wrench to use......you guys are awesome!! My nearest dealer is about 120 miles away so if I don't fix it myself; it's a real problem to tow it down to him!!

Well I am really confused now! I cannot find any drain plug on my injector pump. My FarmPro 2420 is a 2004 model with a TY290 2cyl. 2WD and power steering. I bought it with 100 hours on it and now it has 295. I am embarrassed to admit that I didn't know the oil needed changing in the injector pump until recently.
I had a small hydraulic leak that I fixed with new washers so I also changed the hydraulic fluid and refilled with fresh AW32. Started the tractor to test the hydraulics and so far no leaks and all is working just as it should.
Then I decided to go for the injector pump and I cannot find a drain plug anywhere. I did pull the dipstick and some fluid squirted out when I pulled it and it seems to be fresh clean hydraulic fluid. Is my particular engine one that lubricates the injector pump through the engine somehow??

Anybody have any thoughts on this??

Like I said, the tractor starts quick, idles nice and has normal power and all systems are working as they should!!!

I am not familiar with your tractor but the pic above shows a 13 mm wrench is needed for the drain plug. I know my 284 has 2 drain plugs on the injector pump. Keep looking at the pic and go back out and look at the pump again.

If oil came out and was that thin its diluted with diesel fuel. That is why you change it regularly. Some fuel will get into the oil over time. Most of us change the oil in the pump every 100 hours or every other oil change for that reason alone.

Chris, The picture you are referring to is the one that Willi posted but my tractor must not have the same style because there is no 13mm or any other size plug in the bottom of mine. I know now (after reading the posts on this forum) that the oil does get diluted and that's why I was anxious to change it.
So I am still at a loss as to how to drain it!!

You have to be missing something. As far as I know all these pumps have drain plugs. Some of the newer ones are engine fed but if yours has a dipstick I highly doubt it is that style. Keep looking and run your hand around underneath it. Also a fresh set of eyes on the thing may find it right off the bat.

Chris, Thanks again for responding. I just came back from my pole building and looked again and I swear there is no drain plug of any size there. It's getting late but tomorrow I will take my camera out and take some pix of the bottom side of the governor assy and injection pump and post them.

I also checked Homier's website and looked at the picture of the pump assy for the TY290 and it definitely shows a drain plug at the bottom but mine looks almost the same but it's definitely a different design. I also looked at the engine ID plate and it shows the engine was made in 1999/08 but the ID plate on the inside left rear fender shows a date of June 2004. I read somewhere on here that they sometimes stockpiled engines or cheated on the mfr dates to get past EPA regs. So who knows when my engine was built!!

I swear there is no drain plug of any size there.

If I had to find mine from the side - visually or by feel - I'd say the same thing. I can only see it from under the tractor, lying on my back - looking up.

Good chance your engine was made the same year as the tractor. If anything was stockpiled (or falsified), it was probably the engine labels. Some call it a loophole, others call it dishonest. Either way, that's how the Chinese took advantage of a temporary EPA Tier III exemption from 1999 to 2003.
