Changing tire size

Hello all,

I have what is probably a silly tire question on a used tractor that I am trying to purchase. The front tires that it had from the factory are R1 AG tires and the size is 8-16. I would like to replace them if possible with the same type of tire but in 9.5-16 size to get a slightly wider width.
Does anyone know if this tire would fit on the same rim without issues?

Since the OEM front tires are R-1 - I assume the tractor is 4WD. The operators manual should give a listing of acceptable alternate tires.

If the tractor is 2WD - most any size/type will work in the front.

Thanks for the reply. It is a Kioti NX5010. The factory specs show a 8-16 tire but the NX5510 which is the same tractor other than engine tuning, shows the size as 9.5-16. I was thinking that it might work but the rim width may be wider on the 5510, the specs only show the tire size. Then I was wondering if the 9.5 inch tire would fit on the 8 inch rim anyway.
I didn't want to order without checking first.

A 9.5-16 tire uses a wider rim than an 8-16, the 8-16 uses a 6" wide rim while the 9.5-16 uses an 8" wide rim. You would also need to increase the size of the rear tire as well, lest you destroy your MFWD system. The rolling circumference of an 8-16 tire is about 94" while the 9.5-16 is about 99 1/2." Since you cannot adjust the gear ratio of the differentials, you would need to increase the rolling circumference of the rear tires by about ~6% or so to keep the fronts from trying to outrun the rears too much (they will a little, but typically only by 1-4%.)

If TractorData is accurate, Kioti likely uses the same front differential gear ratio in the NX5010 as they do the NX5510. The larger 9.5-16 front tires in the NX5510 are paired with larger 13.6-28 tires vs. 8-16s and 13.6-24s. The rolling circumference of 13.6-28s vs 13.6-24s is about 7% larger which is similar to the ratio of the 9.5-16s vs 8-16s. Thus you would need to get both W8x16 front rims for the 9.5-16 front tires and W12x28 rims and 13.6-28 tires for the rear, and you would be fine...assuming you have enough clearance for those larger tires to fit.

Thank you for the detailed information. That is exactly what I was looking for and had not been able to find. It looks like I will stay with the original size and not get into buying new rims.
