Thanks for the link, I couldn't find it. Even with a Copernic search on "chevron dealer list texas"...

no wonder, it's a secure URL, for unknown reasons, except that they don't want their .... the Austin dealer, not showing immediate familarity with the product, is going to call the Waco warehouse to find out more. Will call back with price and quantity available.

Jloaf, did you get a price in Arkansas? Is it available in 5 gal quantities?

I tried to buy some this spring, but the Chevron distributor told me he could only get it in 55 gal. drums. That sucks.

I went through this dilemma today w/the chevron folks and they couldn't do better than the 55 gal drums. I had to decline. I called the folks at Mobil for comparisons sake and they indicated to me that one of the mail reasons for going to a synthetic was extended drain intervals. He also said this was NOT a good idea w/the same oil in your hydraulics as the oil collects moisture at a substantial rate and should not be neglected. He recommended this product Mobilfluid 424
It looks good to me.

There is nothing wrong with extending drain intervals. Many of my customers get 5-10 times the service life. The only key to extended drain intervals is make sure you do UOA's. If the UOA comes back showing the base oil and additive package are still fine and the contamination are bellow spec then there is no reason to change it. If there is nothing wrong with the oil and you change it you are dumping money down the drain.

My suggestion would be either TRC's UTF or UTF RED.

Whats the difference in the two alternatives you offered?

The main difference between the two is the UTF is a 10W/20 and the UTF RED is a 10W/30. The UTF RED works great in systems that tend to run on the hot side as it can maintain it's viscosity better since it is a little thicker. The UTF Red also has a tackifier additve in it which gives it a slight stringy texture. This helps in gear systems as it allows more oil to stick to the gears and can then be transfered up through the gear case. Both of these oils have anti-wear additive packages that are about 2-5 times that found in other products.
