We have had problems with a hawk coming into the coop.
Anyone try "tunnel" entrance where the chickens have to go through a tunnel and around a corner to get in? Would that dissuade a hawk?

Sounds like a good idea or a smaller door that the hawk might think twice about. The current coop they come in through the floor up a long ramp (hillside coop) Our last one had a regular man door that we opened during the day. I started to get scrub jays inside on that one and they would eat at the eggs. That is until I hazed the #%&$ out of them.

Does DE help w/ your mites or do you need to go bigger ?

We have DE in the nesting boxes and bedding, and in a dust bath box (shallow wood thing a foot square). The wife also uses a mite spray on them now and then. It is mostly keeping up with it, but not perfect.
