What is the best compact tractor to get, and price? With loader, backhoe, and posthole digger.
Thanks for any input.

The best way to choose a tractor is by understanding how you'll use it. Will you be mowing, moving dirt / mulch / stone, digging, etc?

I have a Deere 2520 with a Front End Loader, 61" bucket, pallet forks, ballast box, 62" mowing deck, and a 54" front-mounted snowblower. I have one acre of clear property to mow, a 110' driveway to clear snow from (and I also clear around the back of the house for oil delivery, the dog, etc), and I cut and split my own firewood from log length and stack it on pallets - then, I move it all around with the pallet forks. The machine I have is generally "way too big" for my property and needs with the exception of moving the firewood.

If I had bought for my lesser needs (everything except the firewood), I would have something like the BX25 or the new Deere 1026. But, because I need the extra lifting power, I have the 2520.

Evaluate your needs... Understand how you'll need to use it. Also, evaluate your storage area for it and the implements. The 2000 series Deere machines are actually a little shorter in overall length than the BX series machines with the loaders on both. The 1000 series machines are even smaller.

You should also heavily weigh the dealer experience for different machines. A good dealer can make a huge difference to choose, order, buy, deliver, and "own" a machine.

I plan to use it: Replacing fence post and grading the ground around the fence and then digging up bad water lines and replacing them.
I will not be using the tractor for mowing at this time, I have over 10,000 feet of fencing that is bad. So alot of digging up old post and replacing them.
Thanks for the tip about pallet forks, I may need them to move the post around.
Thank for your input:).

Front End Loader w/ Bucket and Pallet Forks seems like they'd be very integral to what you're describing. It also sounds like a Backhoe is in order to dig up the water lines and possibly dig out old fence posts. If you *do* need to use the BH to remove old posts, would you also need a Post Hold Digger to set new posts? Swapping between the BH and PHD would be a bit of a chore, especially if you had to do it for each post.

What sort of budget are you working with, and are you interested in new or used?

Gosh if your interested in the BX25 just do a search for many of my posts.
Look for GRAPPLEOMATIC and BX25 GOODIES and others... I am VERY pleased
w/ my Kubota BX25 . It is a small tractor, that is EXACTLY what I wanted.
If you need power go bigger, if you need small it is a lil pit bull. I think I can
fit thru a 45" gate, 49' w/ the FEL on. I have dug a hole big enough to
bury the lil bugger w/ 2' on top! It works WELL for it's size. If I could
make anything "better" I would ask for the seat to be reworked when spinning it
and more FEL lift power but hey, it is only 44.5' wide! Ya gotta set priorities.
If I had wads of cash I would have gone green, comparatively when I did
research green meant spending a LOT more of it for the same machine.

If I wanted a bigger machine, on a budget, I would stick w/ Kubota.
the resale of them is INSANE! I dare you to go look at used prices!
THAT makes them a no brainer....

Artisan brings up good points about costs... When I did the research, my local Kubota dealer "wouldn't sell me" anything less than the 2620 based on how I wanted to use it. Deere was running a ton of promos at the time and I ended up with all the machine I needed at a $10,000 savings over what the Kubota was insisting on selling me. And, my machine does everything I need it to. Of course, this also reinforces the need to be sure that you have a good dealer no matter which brand you end up with. Of course, my experience was buying new. Used is a totally different game.
