A new big flat screen monitor or LCD for that fast new computer would be nice. Don't forget the 5.1 surround sound speakers. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

CRAIG: right now i am using a 17 in.monitor, think i will not get a new one from the builder as he is a little high on monitors, but after i i have it up and runing , i think i will get a 19 in flat screen crt. thinking of the samsung but will check them out. i also have to get a new scanner as my current one is scusi(?) and he don't thing it will work. will probably get a new one that is usb 2.0

Just remember that flat screen (LCD - Liquid Crystal Display) measurements aren't the same as CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) measurements. My 15" LCD flat screen has the same usable screen size as my old 17" CRT. A 17" LCD flat screen is about the same as a 19" CRT.

Just a short note from experience. Be sure that your scanner, printer and ect. are XP compatible. If not, they will not work with XP. I found this out the hard way when we switched to Windows XP from Windows 98. Turned out to be a little more expensive than I figured. You also might want to check out a USB terminal. I got one at Office Max that you plug in the back and have a USB hub with five connectors that sets up front for easy access. Sounds like a real sweet setup your getting, good luck.

Frank, do you mean an LCD screen? There are flat screen monitors and LCDs, two different devices. The former is still a CRT. DocHeb's comments are true for LCDs but not flat screen CRTs.

I have a 17" Samsung LCD on my PC, an NEC 15" LCD monitor on one daughter's PC and a 15" LCD Samsung monitor with built in speakers for the second daughter since she needed to conserve space in her dorm room. If I was buying another LCD monitor, I'd probably go with the NEC, since it seems a little brighter than the Samsungs.

How does the resolution and refresh rate of the LCD's compare to the CRT's? My son was a bit disappointed in his LCD's graphics, but can't put a technical finger on why.

Chuck, I haven't seen any difference in the graphics on my LCDs. Refresh rate and resolution seems fine. LCDs have a native screen resolution where they look best, e.g., a 15" LCD default resolution usually is 1024 x 768. If you run it at any other resolution, it will not look as good.
